Once or twice I think, or it might have been IE11. Yeah I had to push-and-hold the power button. I'm using the latter browser (it's in there) for the most part, switch to Edge only if a website acts up with IE (which has happened). The one thing I really find odd about Edge is you apparently can't have your homepage preference come up on new Tabs. That's the consensus on the net, as far as I've read.

For anyone not enamoured with the new alt tab behavior (switching between open windows):

Revert to old alt tab behaviour:
from: How to get old Alt Tab dialog in Windows 10

    1.Open Registry Editor.
2.Go to the following Registry key: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer

Tip: You can access any desired Registry key with one click.
If you do not have such a Registry key, then just create it.

3.Create a new 32-bit DWORD value named AltTabSettings and set it to "1".
4.Sign out from your Windows 10 session and sign in again.

Most likely will pick up a new laptop next weekend as the sales are supposed to be the best besides BF in November.

Been on Win 10 since it was released for early looks for insiders. Same for 8.0. Tested all these for the Military but would have to say Win 10 is the best so far.

Fastest machine you can get is a win 7 off the internet with no updates or antivirus. Stand alone.

Updates and service packs kill the speed.

Got my son a dell 15" laptop last week -- There was a "secret" One Day only 50 percent off straight from Dell -- on any of their laptops (well, most of them). It was an awesome deal. And seems like it was legit, because I really researched the computer before I was convinced that it was not just a scam selling goods that had been marked way up

It had Windows 7 Pro. It was painful installing the Windows 10 upgrade before last Friday. Tried for at least 18 hours, three separate times before it finally would download and install, but once it did, it was great.

Was able to get free Windows Office 2016 Pro from his university. So, all in all, other than the Windows 10 upgrade, it was pretty sweet. Even I was tempted to buy one.

Still have not found a deal yet. SAMS is having a HP on special Sat. Seems all the laptops have poor reviews these days.

BTW, I mistyped a URL (edge) and got locked into a bogus web site "you have a virus/call us quickly". Could not get rid of it so I searched the net on another computer and maybe fixed it. It would lock on that stupid site and two antivirus programs could not get rid of it.

    Links to follow.

What I did was turn off my router. Reboot. Go to Cortina. Type in a url. clear cookies and all data in the edge settings menu. clean disk. scan again.
BTW none of the recommended anti virus programs worked.

However I may run spybot for grins this morning.

Could you use System Restore? It's disabled by default in Windows 10, BTW.

Following is just another Win 10 fix that worked for me:

I noticed over the last few days my system (set on default power saving settings) was no longer "going to sleep" properly. I'd set up HomeGroup, and this may or may not have been the issue. For me at least, this finally fixed it:

Sleep blocked by "active remote client"

Note, at the above page they say to ENABLE the following option. I found the opposite works, and have editted the instruction accordingly, edits in CAPS.

To see what process might be preventing sleep:

Run a dos shell as an administrator, and type:

    powercfg -requests

    If it shows:

An active remote client has recently sent requests to this machine

The fix for this issue is to DISABLE the option "Allow the device to wake the computer" in Power Management for Network Adapter on your computer.

Follow the steps to enable the Power Management option:

    a. Press Windows + X keys and click on Device Manager.

    b. Search for Network Adapter.

    c. Right click on the Network Adapter that you use and click Properties.
(There may be more than one, likely only the relevant one will show a Power Management Tab)

    d. Click on the Power Management tab.

    e. UNCHECK the option "Allow the device to wake the computer".

    f. Click Apply and Ok to save the changes.

Re: the scam Web site and the warning that ETP posted about.

Now that I think about it, the same sort of thing happened to me after installing W10 on my home desktop. I don't remember the circumstances totally, as it was probably around Sept. or so (as I said, right after W10 install).

Anyway, I was locked and the only option was to click on the button that would take me to the "special web site" that would fix the problem.

I finally did the control/alt/delete dance and shutdown the process, which got my computer back into my control.

Rebooted and ran MalwareBytes, AVAST and some other on-demand web scanner (Panda?) and all came out clear.

No problems since....sounds like ETP's problem may have been a little more severe than mine, though. The one thing I am not happy about is I had MalwareBytes Anti-Exploit running on my computer until I installed W10 -- apparently the two don't play nice together and since the W10 install Anti-Exploit has run away from home.

Maybe they have put out a fix for that now, I will have to check....

Ran into ta similar issue for 4 different laptops. It would put the network WIFI adapter to sleep. Constantly! You have to drill down into settings and say never shut down or sleep for the adapter.

Yep, nasty when that happens. Thought sure that the ones recommended would fix it. One person even did a restore to no avail.

Not sure something is not lurking in a file somewhere ready to jump out and strangle me.

Bitdefender has been running well on ours, for about a week now on 30 day trial. I'm pretty much sure I will take the plunge. Norton Internet Security (that we've been using for years) would not stay running on Win 10, and their remote support accomplished nothing trying to get it fixed, multiple attempts.

I am using the free AVAST -- which I have been using for years, and other than that freeze-up last fall, have had no issues -- and I run the free version of MalwareBytes once a week as a back-up. And, yes, it is taking forever to post today.

I don't trust Norton anymore, too much bloat IMO. Slows everything down.

Spybot works ok but I always uninstall it after each use since it does not work well with Defender. Not sure anything completely allows Defender to stay live and active. Defender is a better core protector and use the other stuff like once a quarter.

However they put a reinstall message for every reboot so I need to find that file. Another Easter egg hunt.

    Found file explorer.

It was lurking in a sub sub sub folder.

Several are like that. I think Norton is the worst.
