Does the Volt's half seat negatively impact the comfort of the outboard seats? How so?

Depends on the car and what else is being carried.

Nope. It's a fixed armrest with some storage underneath.

We now travel with a dog and two cats. The cat carriers are stacked in one seat, and bungeed to the anchor latch. The dog likely wouldn't care center console. Some would, and some are quite big.

My concern about that console with a dog is how well will it stand up to the claws, and how slippery it is for dog feet. I wouldn't put food or water out while in motion to avoid spills.

No, it's part of the seat-base structure. But the seat backs do fold over it for an open cargo space.

Great - with GPS - HUD - MFD etc. all i need for my OCD is to throw one more distraction into the mix. Skewz me while i go check to see if the car is locked, one more time.

No you're not alone. That was one of my first thoughts as well. Although I kind of like the front
The back end though? Reminds me of a racoon's face. Not liking that at all. If I get one at least I'll never have to look at that back part.

thought I'd add my impressions of the Volt since I was at the Chevy dealership yesterday to take a look. From my online research I was getting increasingly interested in the volt 2017 as a possible 2nd option for a Plug-in (next to the Prime). It's a good looking car as far as I'm concerned. Nice lines and great shape. I was a bit surprised to find that it is actually a smaller car than expected from the pics that I've seen. Sitting in the front seat was comfortable, nice seats, nice feel, however the back seats are a different story. I could only sit upright in the back seat when completely leaning back so my head was essentially under the glass of the hatch - otherwise I was hitting the ceiling. Leg room was ok with the drivers seat not all the way back. If I drove, the seat would be all the way back, making it very tight for a tall person to sit behind me. The trunk space was also smaller than I thought it would be. Either way - it's unfortunately not going to work for me, the way we are using a car (often picking up friends at the airport, etc), but if you are looking mostly for a 2 seater, or know that you will only have shorter passengers in the back (kids), then it surely is a great car (or second car for commuting). So...I'm still anxiously awaiting to see the Prime at a dealership.
Anybody know whether there is a Prime drive event somewhere in the Seattle area? One would think that if they did that in Portland, they'd possibly come up to Seattle where there is a large potential customer base.

I had registered with Toyota's website as someone interested in the Prime. They then notified me of the drive event through an email. I assume you are already registered as well.

You could always make an inquiry through the customer support section of their website. They will answer you, but learning something about the companie's future plans is another matter. I am surprised that Portland happened before Seattle.

I bought my Prius a couple years ago at Toyota of Seattle and the experience was pretty painless and pleasant. I think they switched now to a no-haggle policy with you paying the price that's displayed. From what I've seen those prices are pretty good...

Toyota also points out that the Prius Prime qualifies for a $4,500 US federal tax credit.

great - one more route for the hackers

Some manufacturers actually invite hackers to breach their systems. Then the manufacturer can do a better job.

What do you mean 4,500 u.s. federal tax credit . I lost 6, 000 one time in Wallstreet with a broker. and I only got 600.00 tax credit. How much do we really get back out of 4,500?

Funny you say that. I also registered several times with Toyota about getting updates on the Prime. I have yet to receive one email about it

Kind of makes you wonder - what will be communication be like, AFTER they have your money.

That said, check your spam folder.

Well, In keeping with the Portland Theme--

I went to Toyota of Portland today and had the chance to sit in and start up a brand new 2017 Prius Prime. We didn't drive it because the car was sold, so it was really nice of the sales guy to let us take a look and power it up.

I thought it odd that the engine came on a few seconds after pressing the start button. The sales guy explained that the AC was turned on and when the AC is selected on, the ICE automatically turns on. No, I said, just no.

The ICE came on because the traction battery had been drained below the EV limit and the car was in Hybrid mode. Whether the Prius AC is on or off is irrelevant because it is electric and has been since 2010. Simple explanation for anyone who has done any homework.

Really, what is the point of a dealer that is feeding prospective buyers BS? Tesla has the right idea about selling high tech cars. Seems that the Toyota sales people are worthless with the new Primes. That said, it's a really nice car.
