Just picked up a 2016 Blizzard Pearl Prius Four Touring with PCP yesterday. I will tell me story in another thread. My question is where do I stick the EZPass transponder that I am moving from my old car? In the new car, near the front mirror, there is a camera and a black box. I need to know where to place it. I know you are suppose to put it on the passenger side, but how far over and how much lower or higher. Pictures will help I anyone has actually done it.

    Thanks.

Here's a picture of where my EZPass transponder is located (2009 Gen II):

Mine is right of the camera (looking out) and below the rain sensor. With my height and the way I have the driver's seat positioned, I can't see it. I didn't want it blocking my vision. This is an RFID sticker, BTW, not one of the older battery powered transponder boxes. Our toll road authority also offers transponders that attach to your front license plate as an additional option for a fee.

I don't know about the passenger side. The antenna looks like it's in the center of the lane. In the old and new Prius I put them on the dash. In the Gen 4 I have it on top of the large center screen. You can play with the location so it doesn't block the top screen. Also it's good to get a new one once in a while. They have a battery in them. Mine died 2 weeks after moving it to the gen 4

I have mine positioned at the very top of the windscreen to the right of the rain sensor (so that it is out of my line of vision) - works 100%

In Massachusets they now have a smaller EZ Pass called the G4. It is rectangular rather than square.

Since I was "having intermittent trouble" with my older/larger version, the Commonwealth's service center didn't have any problem replacing it. The newer smaller version could be 100% hidden from my sightline behind the mirror-- even though it is rather low down. Perfectly centered below the Toyota camera.

Just mentioning in case you have a larger version that has similar intermittent trouble.

I have the G4 version which I got in Massachusetts. Moved from Connecticut 3 years ago to North Carolina. North Carolina has tolls that use EZPass. So it was easier for me to keep the Mass version. Connecticut didn't have tolls, so because I went to Boston and the Cape a lot, I got the Mass version, instead of NY or NJ at the time. Have a question about your placement. Why did you put it under the black box instead of putting it to the right of the camera (looking out), below the rain sensor like the person did two posts above yours?

    Not sure, to be honest.

I do know that at my height, I never even catch a glimpse of the transponder's edge where I have it now. It is completely hidden by the mirror.

I may have been thinking of that other spot for a dash cam (a better spot for hard wiring) but put that project the back burner.

Rain sensor? Why on earth would one need such a thing? My eyes and my skin tell me if I need to use an umbrella or windscreen-wipers! (…sheeesh!) o_O

I found that sitting on top of the AC vents is unobtrusive and blends with the white on the steering wheel. The battery on this one is now about 9 years old and will need replacing soon. NH replaces the entire transponder; the new ones are smaller than the ones I have.

The toll transponder I received came with instructions:

"Note: Some late model European-made vehicles have metallic windscreens that
require a different position for your tag. If your vehicle has a metallic windscreen,
an area of it will be covered with dots or be lighter than the rest of the windscreen.
In this case, the tag mounting position must be within the dotted or lighter area. "

I don't think the Prius has a metallic windscreen, but it does have an area covered with dots - so that's where I put mine. It's slightly to the side, as it needs to slide out of it's mount, and I needed clearance - hopefully it works, I haven't been through a toll yet.

[My KIA, 10 yrs ago had a metallic windscreen, apparently good for your health, but my SatNav GPS wouldn't work with it, but I mounted the toll 20160830_094525.jpg .]

Called the Toyota Dealership to ask them where to install the EZPass. They told me, from the looking out position, either to put it on the left side of the mirror (driver side) or underneath the black box. They said that f I put it under the rain sensor, the sensor wouldn't work properly. I guess I will put it under the black box. Anyone else had Toyota tell them to do it this way?

Not sure how to answer that question.

Was the car going Northbound at a safe rate of speed, using its turn signals, and maintaining a safe distance behind the car in front of it?

    :)

The chances of that on I-93 (or for that matter any highway in MA) are pretty slim. Former commuter into Cambridge.

Don't let my physicist wife see you use that phrase, unless you meant "Was the car accelerating?" and even then, no. :)

    (Speed is a rate.)

No there's another White Prius 4 i see almost every day going south. I come from NH and see him a few times a week. But on another note i do do the speed limit in the right lane on cruise control. I'm in no hurry to get anywhere fast tbh.
