Prius is very easy to maintain. Coolant should be flushed at 100k and we at the dealer recommend 50% of that interval after 100k. So the next flush is recommended at 150k. Same goes for the spark plugs. Change at 120k, then 180k, 240k, etc. Bear in mind after 80k it's considered 'high mileage'. Change your fluids regularly and it'll act like a Toyota.

If you brought your Prius in to me at 120k+ miles and request a trans flush and it's never been done before, I'd have you sign a waver that if after the flush your Prius won't back out of the bay, were not held responsible. At this point I'd leave the trans fluid alone.

Was I the only one to catch that the OP stated the discs were replaced and rotors turned? Did he meant pads replaced and rotors turned?

The coolants in a Prius don't get flushed, they are just drained and replaced.

The transaxle fluid doesn't get flushed either. What could possibly happen with the Prius transaxle oil change that would make the Prius fail? It's only oil and Toyota doesn't recommend any change interval at all.

I'm puzzled by this too; can't see how draining and refilling the transaxle could disable it.

Can possibly free up sludge and it make its way to places it's not supposed to. This is definitely a debatable topic.

But you can't cite a single case of that ever happening to a Prius, can you? With a conventional automatic, perhaps it has, but that's a very different situation.

Hopefully the transaxle fluid and coolant drain didn't get mixed up

Are you a Toyota dealer mechanic? Toyota service manager? Something else?

Can't cite if it has or has not happened to a Prius but this is also what the service manual recommends.

That's a lot of money for an oil change.

    What is SS?

That's seriously overcharging btw, for a service with less complexity than an oil change. You guys don't seem to understand Prius at all.

It requires under $40 worth of Toyota ATF-WS fluid, a couple of washers, basic tools, and under an hour. Very simple.

The way the dealer's charge for services, it doesn't always make sense. They do many more oil changes compared to this service, they want to somehow make it worth while.

Like them charging $100+ to change a halogen light bulb, takes a few minutes. There's really no way to understand the pricing structure.

I'm completely with you. It sounds expensive when you can envision the process and can do it yourself. But, you are paying for a service that you either are incapable of doing or do not want to do. Valet service is $20 at a gourmet restaurant or you can park it yourself.

The service labor charge is $90. Parts are:

-World Standard Automatic Transmission fluid - $83.76 (12 qts)
    -Wynns Trans Flush - $26.19

    SS = shop supplies

Can a customer just ask for the drain and fill option that uses 4 quarts and doesn't use a flush machine?

You're too patient JC. I wouldn't let those jokers near my car. Wynn's tran flush!?!?

What he's talking about sounds like a post-contamination procedure. Completely misguided.
