I don't have a problem with that but what's your logic for the 40 weight? 0W-40 Mobil-1 I put in my minivan and I certainly will use it in my Prius if I need to, but I'd likely blend it a bit. I would not hesitate to try that if I was losing oil or something.

being on the WAY safe side /
the 0w-40 is the only mobil1 which is approved by bmw as a L1 long-life oil/
(doesn't matter that I change my oil every 5000 miles neway....)
I have two more cars (forester & a gto), they get filled with the same oil & I never had the slightest problem /
&, regarding to 'bob-is-the-oil-guy', the mobil1 0w-40 runs rather on the thin side, so it's close to a 0w-30/

I know the stuff...I got a 5-qt bottle European Formula 0w-40 Mobil-1 right here filled with drained used oil. It says good things about BMW/VW approved etc. It has A3/B3 rating which is not A1/B1 but I am not sure if the A1/B1 rating can be attained with a "0W"

Prius has always had Toyota 0W-20 oil.....I just did an oil change with Mobil 1, 0W-30 oil. My Gen III has 63,000 miles, hope this will prevent the oil usage as it reaches higher miles. (y)

I just hit 80k miles. Decided to switch from Mobil 1 0W-30 to Mobil 1 0W-40 motor oil. I have no oil burning at this time. I managed 54 MPG today on my way home from Hybridpit. Based on the approval of Toyota for other regions around the world I feel comfortable with this thicker weight of oil.

Good to see you back on an oil thread ;).

I’m still on 5w-30 but this round tried RedLine:). It’s a bit pricey, but our Prius is running smooth and quiet ;).

After 6600 miles on this oil change I have only used 10 ounces. Will probably end up changing the oil around 8500 miles as we have a trip to “the happiest place on earth” at months end and I’ll give our Prius a fresh batch of Red Line :).

    Getting 52 mpg running 5w-30 on 90% freeway driving(y).

Its been one week of driving, around 500 miles and I am still getting 55 to 60 MPG!!! I have seen no issues using 0W-40 Mobil 1.
