So I had my first mishap in my "new" prius. Not yet being accustomed to the low ground height, I clipped the top of a garbage can with the top of my passenger side mirror on a tight road, knocking the mirror off.

It broke the plastic swivel thing that attaches the mirror housing to the frame. I couldn't see if theres any way to replace that piece specifically. So my question is, can the swivel piece be removed by itself, or is it permanent so that the entire assembly must be replaced?

lol. This happened to me when my 2005 Prius was two years old. I hit a mailbox. I replaced the whole left side mirror, including all the plastic and the mirror assembly. I super glued the mirror together to the car for about a year, but you might as well buy a new mirror.

Ok thanks guys. I was able to find concealed screws on the bottom of the housing. I removed the swivel thing and both broken halves are mostly intact, so I'm going to try and mend them temporarily until I find a permanent solution. Thanks again.

You can buy a replacement mirror on Amazon for under $40. I put one on my 2005. It comes with a black cover. To swap your car's cover you need to work a bunch of snaps simultaneously. I found butter knives did the job.

I bought a dual tube of jb plastic weld 2 stage glue from advance for $7, mixed it together and poured it into the swivel area. The mirror is now basically fused on by a chunk of epoxy. Its holding solid so far.

If it comes undone I'll buy another mirror. If it stays put than it is where it needs to be.
