There is technology that increases reliability and usability. Then, there are "Rube Goldberg" gadgets that are overly complicated at the expense or reliability and cost of repair.

I have never had any issues with my blue 2021 Prius Prime Limited, but I do baby it.

The only real issue around here are the crazy drivers. Just a few nights ago, someone suddenly started driving slowly across the freeway lanes perpendicular to me on a curvy off ramp when I was coming down 55 mph. I had to brake hard. I have no idea where he/she came from and what he/she was doing.

Just a guess: They were making a three point turn because they had been going the wrong way??

I don't think we have seen Boeing actually get through their issues. They are currently trying to get through it.

You are technically correct, the best kind of correct. I was just going for humor points on that one.

Yes, but do you use a remote control to change the channel? I don't...

Safety Recall Rear Doors | PriusChat

The new, sleek rear door handle is on the C-HR, and was also on the Sonic, Spark, and others over ten years ago.

Issues with new models and redesigns is common, and they can happen past the first year.

The gen4 had recalls for the parking brake cable coming off, and an engine harness shorting out with possible fires. The gen4 Prime's release was delayed over issues with the carbon fiber hatch, and several here experienced a metal piece on it rusting. Sure there is more to be found in those sub forums.

I think a lot of us humans (especially me) try to find things to complain about instead of appreciating the good things in life.

They haven’t ruined the ease of plain old wiper and blinker stalks, yet.

Even if I were APPROACHING 90 years age I wouldn't even be thinking of buying a new car. Actuarily - there's no likely way to amortise a new car's usefulness - based on life expectancy.

    Nothing wrong with the "T" .... If it's been updated;

I was all set to get into one this weekend. My dealership called and said they got the stop sale yesterday and it might not open back up till as late as third quarter. That is very disappointing as my states EV rebate closes next month.

Ha ha, and the prime lending rate is the big issue right now. :)

Yeah, this certainly sucks for prospective Gen 5 customers. As I said, it's good that I got my deposit for the waiting list back, as with the price gouging by both Toyota and the dealers, limited supplies, and now this recall, it's simply not worth to upgrade my three-year-old car.

Surely you jest. There is nothing that they can't ruin. I have had 6 Toyota models over the last 40 years. I was pleased for quite a while with the fact that the wiper and blinker stalks were positioned and operated the same on 4 out of 6 of them. Then they started to slowly introduce changes. Caught in a sudden downpour in my wife's car, I found myself at a loss as to the function of each control.

I hope that it quickly occurs to Toyota that they can use the waterproof IV needle shower shield (aka dressing) to waterproof the switch in the stranded Prius. The border of the clear plastic patch have an adhesive. Tegaderm makes one for sale at the local pharmacy.

Another simple fix wold be to apply a small amount of flexible RTV around the edges of the switch's paddle. If that does not work a 3D printed gasket could be made from one of the gooey formulas.

I'll be testing the Tegaderm option tomorrow for fit and flexibility in place.

But what if you live to 100?

What if you're more like 50? Seems like 100k miles is now where used cars are worth about half their original MSRPs.

At least with Toyotas and Hondas. A 3-year-old Camry with 45k miles is around MSRP still. My Avalon was nearly 1/4 MSRP when I bought it.
