They can get a chain also. But it's doubtful you need one. Did you damage it?
When I checked mine, it was tight on the sprokets, no play at all...

Toyota offers a complete gasket kit, includes head gasket and pretty much everything inside the engine. And replacement head bolts, which is safest. Part nos in attached.

Sorry for all the crazy fast texts. All heck broke loose as I took off that EGR. Cover.. car ran omg like a triangle ️ of death.
    My plan
Ordered an oem EGR Online. Get next Wed. $187
As car has been running. No check engine lights on.
#1 I have all. Replace bad cells as needed as charge and discharge each and balance.
During the week while waiting for egr. Check my engine to see why the headgasket is bad. No coolant loss.
So probably bad compression in one cly. Under load of starting and restarting only..
If gasket is bad. Next weekend replace.
It's not a money saving thing. I am sick of these covid mechanics. Barly do a brake job with 1 week appointment.
My new car. Newer with 36 months free service. With appointment. 2 hours to change the oil. Only 11k on it. A Santee fe. In 21 impossible to get the rav 4 or crv . Unless over sticker..
Thanks for all the advice and manuals online..
On the battery I will take some photos and post them.
    Thanks all.

You mean you took the EGR valve apart with the engine running?

no i cleaned egr off car- cooler than manifold- ran better still stmbled when gas engine kicked in. so friday i took off egr cover 2 screws. i seen damage to the black item. broke. went to put in bad on omg death rattle like never before. almost like putting on the cover opened the egr.
took on and off a few times. finally got it running better.
while cleaning it. the spring action on the egr felt weird..like sticking..
ordered a new oem coming. wondering if i should block it with a putty knief, if so, what results am i looking for. got a leak down tester and scope coming tonight from amazon. than i will test cly head gasket.
brought with192 k have 202k always had a rumble off and on while slow take off. under heavy acc-runs fast and good. mgg only 36. did get 50 last summer.
when i cleaned egr system the car had alot more power in eco mode. no oil burning 1qt in 5k+ no coolant leak. tks in advance.

It does, a little. When you're reassembling an EGR valve on the bench, you can just shove it closed with your thumbs afterward. If the valve is on the car, you probably want to give the ECM time to command it closed (or even command it closed yourself with the active test) before starting the engine.

i tryed on the car to look at it yesterday. found it broke inside..the black thing.. thats spin's seemed like the capped binded on the valve to force it open . than i got the death rattle, after a few off and on's with the black cap. it got ok enough to drive it. before death rattle like never before..now its back to the old way rough idle at start only than its smooth??

I'm not aware of anything expendable inside the EGR valve; if something broke in there I'd replace the valve.
