    Greetings all!
    Allow myself to introduce... myself...

Maintenance electrician living in the central Florida area. Replacing my faithful old toaster (06 xB) and decided to go with a hybrid. Liked the V for it's size and found one in good shape near me!
It's a 2014 V two. Looks pretty clean and drives great! Battery is in great shape. The owner will be getting the paper title soon and is taking it in for a software update. Then I'll be picking it up after we get back from vacation.

With the research I did from the site, I picked one that had the newer piston rings so I won't have to worry about oil consumption. But I will be trying to source out an egr valve to clean and keep as a spare. :)

I'll probably drive it as is for a while before I start doing any mods or tweaks. Hopefully I'll be able to get my solobaric sub in here somehow...

I'll post more detailed pics when it's in my driveway.
    Looking forward to it!

Welcome to Prius Chat! What kinds of tweaks and Mods are you looking at? I always thought it'd be cool to lower a Prius V with custom suspension and low profile tires and then modify the body and do custom wrap to make the car look as small as possible.

    Egr Valve Kit.

04004-58137 with the updated egr valve part 25620-37120. The kit with gaskets costs less than the valve alone. There are wear parts in the valve so new is recommended.

Don’t buy the $99 aftermarket egr valves which use a different mechanism and are known to stick open straight out of the box. Many have JDMSpeed on them and no Toyota part number.

If you want to buy an egr cooler as a spare, get Toyota 25601-37010 new or used. These get clogged up in many gen3s. However it may not if your car has the revised pistons and rings.

Check the vin carefully as there were two factories with their own sequence numbers. Some info on this site shows only one factory.

    Love the toaster Pic!

Big thanks for the info! Will definitely look into getting one as quick as I can!

My vin ended with E335 etc so I'm thinking that should be good. (It was one of the first things I checked.)

No. Hardly any marks on it! Different vin too. I'm guessing you're referencing a car you had?

Mostly audio to add a sub. I wouldn't mind adding a rear sway bar since it made a big difference in the xB. Nexgen lithium batteries might not be bad when the time comes either!

    Mendel and rjparker-
I ran across a post you both commented in that mentioned the head gasket and the egr. Seeings as mine is over 113k, I'll order the parts you mentioned while away so they'll be there when I get home. From the vids I looked at, the job requires some tear down and tight fitting, but can be done. That rear bolt seems a pain...
Definitely want to get this done sooner than later.

    Picking it up today!

    Thanks again for the help!

With 113k miles I wouldn’t order any replacement EGR components. The pliable gaskets on the intake manifold are worthwhile to replace, they’re only about $30 USD for the lot. I replaced them, the second/recent time I cleaned the EGR/intake on our ‘10. See attached for gasket part nos.

I would recommend removing the EGR cooler’s lower hold-down nut, in advance, any time. You can do this without removing anything else, disabling the car. Just take it off and leave it off. This nut is just really hard to get at, best dealt with first..

To further expedite things, also back out the stud it was on (requires an E8 Torx socket). It’ll likely be stubborn all the way out, and again very hard to reach. Keep the socket firm and square on this stud if you do this; it’ll be difficult to break loose, and you don’t want to round off the Torx ribs on it’s tip.

Once both these items are off, the later removal of the EGR cooler will not require removal of the two rearmost studs, at the connection to exhaust manifold. Also, those studs being left on, the gasket there will be much less prone to dropping, getting lost. And during reinstall you can hang that gasket on the studs.

Also worthwhile to preemptively remove and reinstall the more accessible nut and stud combo going through the EGR valve, ditto for top bolt on EGR cooler. They all tend to be stubborn, due to dissimilar metals. Torque values for these can be found in the top link in my signature, in the repair manual excerpts

Here’s a pic of the cooler and its fasteners:

Do also read through those links, lots of tips and links, suggestions for cleaning, and tricks to avoid coolant spillage.

Excellent information, Mendel! Thanks! I'll definitely start reading through all this! The pics help too!

Only thing I've done so far in the preventative maintenance department was to clean that filter for the battery cooler. Really dusty! I'll check out the fan itself and other parts when I can. Picked this up right before our trip so it's going to sit in the parking lot for a bit...

Took a couple of quick shots this morning before we left. Need to get an owners manual with a maintenance schedule when I can.

Thanks again for all the help and advice, everyone!

Don't let it sit more than two weeks without a 12v battery maintainer unless the battery is new.

We'll only be gone for a week so that should be good. I'll keep that in mind for my wife's hybrid as well, thanks!
