    A stretched chain makes a rattle noise. I uploaded a video of what a Prius engine sounds like with a chain stretched.


    I had this problem on a Prius a few years ago, but I don’t remember what the codes were.
    I can't say for sure what the engine sounded like in the Prius I replaced the battery in because I was focused on the engine misfire and replacing the hybrid battery. I started it 2 or 3 times with the hood closed while sitting in the car as far as I remember.
    The owner can tell how the engine sounds in her Prius.

    Thankfully my Prius doesn't sound like that, and there is no check engine light. Car is running well with better acceleration since Carall replaced the battery. I replaced the cabin air filter and dumped a bottle of Chevron Techron Fuel System Cleaner in the gas tank this morning, so hopefully we're good for a while.
