10 K Service, less than impressed! dealership misery!

    The problem seems to have resolved itself for now. As I was driving home yesterday, I heard a voice say, "software update completed." I parked the car overnight, and today, I'm not detecting any battery drain.
    I just wish that Toyota had decided to be more honest about this.

    our hybrid camry has been at the dealer for over a week with a leaky windshield, and will be there for undetermined amount of time do to parts availability.
    i got a free loaner when i brought it in, toyota is paying for everything. that's how it should be.

    Now I need to figure out how to add my vehicle back into the app. It says, "not compatible" or something like that. The support line is now closed. I'll have to try later.

    I haven't received the new battery, and I don't know if it will work anyhow.
    But I'm fairly certain that when a major software update is happening, it can drain the 12V battery quite rapidly. In fact, just before the end of the latest update, my battery went dead after only 2 hours of being parked.
    Now that the update is finished, the parasitic drain has all but disappeared. Last night the battery voltage was 12.4V, and this morning it's around 12.2V.

    I would measure that, with a regular digital multimeter. Until you've got definitive measurement, you're mostly whistling past the graveyard.

    Neither of those numbers is very good; not sure you're out of the woods yet. What date did you drive the car off the the dealership lot? Maybe get it check with an electronic battery tester. One example is Solar BA9.

    Not sure what you mean. Those numbers look good to me.
    Remember, the voltage while the car is running is about 2V higher than when it's stopped.

    I took possession in the first week of January. I tend to believe that the battery tested OK twice, If I had insisted on a new battery, I would be a real A-hole, and it wouldn't have helped anyhow.

    I just wish Toyota were more transparent about their software updates. All you get for an indication is a rapidly-depleting battery. And an easily missable voice message, saying "software update complete."

    For an AGM in good condition, 12.7 is good. That's car off, first thing in the morning. 12.2 is "on the way out".

    Did the dealership ever divulge what phantom draw they measure? Or did they even measure it?

    They nodded when I mentioned that I had measured 340 mA drain. I'm sure they knew about it, but didn't want to tell me about it.
    Compared to what was happening before, I'll take 12.2V after parking for a day, any day.

    My old Gen 3 Prius went dead in about a week for as long as I owned it. That was because of a 50 mA drain. If I wasn't driving it for a week, I put it on a battery maintainer. Just a fact of life with cars these days.

    This is an 8+ year old AGM Optima Yellow Top, installed in our ‘10 in September of 2015. Car had a good drive the previous day, then voltage measured first thing in morning:

    It all depends on the voltage regulator. In the colder months of winter, the regulator delivers a higher voltage than on the balmier days we're currently having. If my car wants to charge the AGM battery to 12.4V, I won't argue.

    From what I’ve seen your voltage is in the range of the Gen 4 charging algorithms. The system considers 12.4 volts good. And after the car sits for awhile the gas tank vacuum pump kicks in so the voltage will drop to around 12.2 volts (depending on whether you put your fob to sleep and how many lights you have on after the car shuts down).
    With in a short time the battery begins to recover a bit and usually settles down around 12.38 or so. At least that’s what mine has done since day one.

    No, Gen 4 and Gen 5 use an EN LN1/BCI 140R/DIN H4 lead–acid battery.

    It would be interesting if the parasitic drain was caused by the software update. I wonder if others experienced it.

    I would be surprised if an LFP lithium-ion 12-V battery in a Gen 4 or Gen 5 Prius didn't result in error codes. Lithium-ion batteries have built-in electronic battery-management systems, and they would confuse the battery sensor in Gen 4 and Gen 5 Priuses.
