    Hi all,

Prius 2010 display switch in steering wheel not working

This happened after i went to oil change in canadian tire. I watched the few youtube video of spider spirng in that. its hard to tinker without breaking whole thing.

May be they took out airb bag and losen cable one side?

I may have to try to open the airbag

Also if there is diagnostic device for prius 2010 that connect with mobile app and tell me everything about car?

Is there any ? How the repair shop test prius electrical wiring?

Atpresent display and trip switch do not work for 3 years. Car is sitting in drive way. i just drive the car every weekend.

Anyone have ideas , let me know

    Thanks.

Most likely the spiral cable, be very careful with air bags.
    Search gen3 obd readers.

Treat that airbag with care. I'm hoping that when you said "I may have to try to open the airbag" you're not actually going to open the airbag. The thing's got an explosive charge. Taking it out and putting it in is all I would do - CAREFULLY.

It sounds like a clock spring (spiral spring) issue. The oil change should have nothing to do with the steering wheel buttons other than pressing the trip button to get to Trip A to reset the oil change interval. Clock springs all wear out, and if you've got a 2010, it's about due. Check to see if any of the other buttons on the steering wheel don't work. With a clock spring failure, it's common (but not always) that some of the other buttons to not work too. (The horn is included on this list. Easiest to watch the holographic display as you touch the steering wheel buttons to see if they all work.)

Before you touch the airbag, disconnect the 12V battery and wait a few minutes before you do anything. After you get it out, lay it on the ground, pointing up and away from anybody. Other than that, Snap it back when you're done with the clock spring replacement. I wouldn't try to do anything else with the airbag.

The clock spring isn't really a user-serviceable component either. Watch out for cheap knockoffs..Just change the module like you see in the videos.

Most OBD mobile device applications only talk to the engine ECU. Some have upgrades to allow you to communicate with the other controllers in the car, if you want to talk to everything, that will be Techstream, which is what the dealers use. That's not a mobile app. No diagnostic software is going to tell you everything about a car's electrical systems.

The Touch Tracer display wasn't on all trims. It does look sort of holographic, doesn't it? Just done with mirrors. :)

On cars that have it, the Touch Tracer messages all travel on just one circuit through the spiral cable, so there could still be the possibility of another circuit being flaky.
