Door Hinge replacement

In GM cars of yore. Hinge pin replacement and bushing was generally the way to go I'm not really sure about the Prius I haven't really looked inside of the generation 3 doors to see but generally most car companies have followed a similar path and usually you just support the door while it swung open in the shop with an adjustable jack or a bucket or whatever you have preferably the adjustable scissor jack or something like that I'm sure they make a door adjusting tool that will hold the door open for you at various adjustable angles that you set and body shops with frame tables and all that I'm sure have this all worked out at the house the bucket or the adjustable jack will probably be the way to go. This was really common on old Camaros and all that sort of thing back in the day You can still buy the hinge pins and the pieces that go in the hinge holes and all of that still today I do believe.

 

I replaced one or both driver door hinges on my gen 1 when they had started to go wobbly. As you noticed, the hinge isn't really built to come apart and replace just the pin.

It wasn't a bad job to change the hinges. I don't remember what I did exactly to support the door temporarily, but it wasn't rocket science.

I became the proud owner of a genuine Toyota 09812-00010 offset 12 mm hinge bolt wrench for access to those bolts without taking the fender off. (Don't know if that same one works for gen 3, but it wouldn't surprise me.)

 

Yes back in the day all the old Corollas and celicas and things like that had bolt on door hinges which was great fender off or not If I remember correctly you could just open the door and undo the bolts and pull the hinge out hopefully with the door supported at the bottom and that sort of thing and you could just buy hinges for reasonable at the time No pins needed nothing they just bolted on kind of like screwing them into your door frame at the house even the holes that the bolts went in had slack in them so that you could adjust the door a little bit

 

I'm just taking mine off other cars that are generally right out here in the yard. But it's nice to know what all part numbers are who. I think the aftermarket has this stuff covered to some of it.
