    Btw, for you guys with kids and what not, I looked through the Canadian Camry online brochure and guess what I saw in the accessory section?

    a rear entertainment system with TWO screens mounted on the front headrests, wireless headphones etc... Not sure if it's factory or dealer installed, probably dealer. But.. wow!

    If only the hybrid got the XLE's reclining rear seat ;).

    I did hear (via Toyota's Dave Hermance at the OC Prius Club meeting 2/25) that the Camry Hybrid's pricing will likely not be the most expensive Camry available, but somewhere in the middle range of all of the Camry pricings. If that makes any sense. :)

    I ordered one for June/July delivery.

    The April issue of Motor Trend in stores now has several interesting comparison tests. One compares Camry HSD to Accord Hybrid, another Prius vs. Civic Hybrid, and the third is FJ Cruiser (got my VIN, arrives month end) vs. H3, Xterra and Liberty. In all cases the Toyota stomps the competition.

    Motor Trend was over the top about Camry HSD and Prius. Their Camry HSD enthusiasm was unexpected, but when they factored in estimated price ($4,000 less than Accord Hybrid), they wrote that it might even be a better buy than Prius...or words to that effect. They reported 40 mpg @70 mph, 31 mpg around town in sunny SoCal. It was quick at 7.9 sec 0-60 and 16.1 @ 89.7 mph quarter-mile. Respectable brakes with discs all around and good handling with the Michelin Energy MXV4 S8 tires in 215/60-16 size and struts all around.

    Question for anyone with a crystal ball: Any guess about Camry HSD Federal tax incentive amount? Assuming they're still in full effect in July, and if MT is right about pricing (between SE and XLE), this could be a strong buy and hold car. Supply will be limited to around 12,000 this calendar year, should easily sell out and maybe even wait lists developing.

    40mpg at 70mph? damn... but then again our 02 Camry XLE gets 35mpg on the highway doing 60-70mph anyway but wow.. 5mpg more. (a litre less in metric terms).

    31mpg isn't bad for city.. still better than the Corolla but I'm sure WE can get more :p

    That probably depends on what the "hybrid premium" comes out to be. Since the features list puts it between the SE and XLE there is a basis for a guess. If we add the much claimed $3,000 to the price of the L4 SE ($21,790 + $3,000 = $24,790) we get a few hundred more than the L4 XLE ($24,425), but less than the V6 XLE ($27,520).

    For the US, it'll be below the XLE V6. For Canada, I'm not sure. Since we don't get an XLE, the hybrid might slot in to replace the XLE 4 cylinder.

    Trying to figure how much the base Hybrid will cost. Comparing standard features with an XLE 4-Cyl.

    The hybrid comes with these standard features not found on the XLE-4:
    Smart Key ($450)
    VSC ($650)
    LED Tail lamps ($ ???)
    Acoustic Insulated Windshield ($ ???)

    The XLE-4 comes with these standard features not found on the Hybrid:
    4-Way Power Passenger Seat ($ ???)
    Reclining Rear Seats ($ ???)
    Wood Trim ($ ???)
    Moonroof ($940)
    Heated Outside Mirrors ($ ???)
    Fog Lamps ($ ???)
    Rear Sunshade ($ ???)

    So if you assume that the cost of features on the XLE such as fog lamps, sunshade, etc. offset the LED tail lamps, windshield, etc. features on the Hybrid you are left with the following...A Hybrid XLE-4 with Smart Key, VSC, but NOT a Sunroof.

    So to figure price of a Hybrid you must take the MSRP of the XLE-4($24425) + Hybrid Synergy Drive($ ???) + Smart Key($450) + VSC($650) - Roof($940)

    So estimating $2000 additional for HSD that puts the Hybrid at $26585. This is believable since I can't imagine they would price it more than an XLE-V6 ($27520). Remember the Camry Hybrid is not the fastest trim level, as in the Highlander/Lexus GS450h, so I don't believe it will be priced the highest. Just in terms of performance and efficiency comparing against an XLE-V6, most people that aren't already set on a Hybrid wont pay MORE for a Hybrid version the exact same car to get 21mpg more City & (only) 6mpg more Highway, when the V6 will SMOKE them in terms of acceleration.

    Just my opinion, feel free to counter, but be nice...

    The Camry HSD has VDIM in lieu of TRAC/VSC. It's the first Toyota to use this system from Lexus. VDIM = Vehicle Dynamics Integrated Management. It combines ABS, BA, TRAC and VSC into one integrated system.

    The hybrid also has blue-tinted headlights :p.

    Oh and the seatbacks fold whereas the XLE models only have a pass-through.

    The V6 will smoke the hybrid in acceleration times. MT tested the Camry HSD and got 7.9 secs from 0-60. The V6 is expected to get in the low 6s.
