I am still waiting for my repair for the valve ticking problem repair!!
Car in the dealer since 2nd week January 2013
The dealer took the valve assembly apart and performed ?? work.
Re-assembled and it still made the sound.
The Toyota certified master mechanic, replaced the timing "can looking device"
which drives the timing chain between the two cam shafts.
    Still made noise...
They then inquired to Toyota and were told to look for a "nick" in the engine block which would produce a timing issue that in turn caused the ticking.
They ordered a Short Block and are now re-assembling.
Does anybody have some intelligent questions to ask the Master mechanic?
Are they throwing me a curve ball?

    On the positive side?
At least it sounds like The Dealership and Toyota believe you, and are working towards remedy, even if obviously there have been miss steps so far.

Nobody is refusing to do work, or not pay for any of the remedies they have tried? If so that's good.

I think the best you can do, is hope the short block which they are now replacing does the trick.

By the way, you word your statement as " They ( The Dealership ) then inquired to Toyota and were told to look for a "nick" in the engine block which would produce a timing issue that in turn caused the ticking."

Did they examine the engine block? Was a nick ever found?

It's good that everyone seems to be working to resolve your issue. It's bad if they have reached a point where they are just taking shots in the dark.

    Good Luck.

Yep, I'm interested in how many miles are on the engine and who's paying for it. It sounds like it's going to be an expensive tick!

Yes, thankfully I had paid for an extended "platinum" add-on warranty... I am the second owner.
    The dealer loaned a "track"car. 2013 corolla.

Yes, they did find something on the block. Under the platinum insurance, it's req,d that the insurance adjuster justify the expense. They examined it and approved the repairs. I told the mechanic to take his time repairing the car, and to return the motor to its former stealth quietness.

The Prius has just over 91000 miles. Aside from the deductible, it's paid for. The only thing is.... I've spent an additional $600 bucks extra on the 4200 miles driven in the loaner... Ouch!

I hope he doesn't have any parts left over when he gets it all back together.
    Good luck

I would ask no questions. It is patience at this time. Sounds like you have a advocate at the dealer.

i'm sure it must be frustrating, but i guess if they keep trying, what more can you ask for? this has to be costing someone a fortune. they might wish they dropped in a new motor at some point.
