Not sure how many of you opted for the cargo net in the 2010.

I noticed when I took delivery that the cargo net was pulling the plastic panels apart because of the bungee effect.

The instructions and parts provided w/ the cargo net has the port tech install the cargo net through a single panel with a short stud. I.E. they did their job correctly.

When I had the car in yesterday, one of their senior techs took a look and said they'd see if they couldn't quickly come up with something.

Turns out the best fix was to drill through a second panel behind the separated one and to use a longer anchor stud. They had this done within 30 minutes and no more separation.

The tech went ahead and submitted a quality report which will hopefully get the part revised.

I just had mine installed Monday, but I haven't put any pressure on it. I'll go back soon for the rear bumper applique, and I'll ask about it at the time.

Rick -- if you're able to post an after picture, I'd appreciate it.

Will try to grab one tonight. According to my dealer, dbacksfan's car had the same issue and was fixed in the same way.

Thanks! I'd appreciate all of the help possible, because I'm very likely going to face the same issue.

I currently have the cargo net with my 2004 Prius. I wasn't going to buy a new cargo net for my 2010 Prius because I assumed I could just attach my current net to the new car. Aren't the mountings for the top of the cargo net standard in the car? Or are they installed only if you purchase the cargo net? I need to know if I should change my order to include the cargo net.

In the 2G, and (I assume) the 3G there are metal anchor points on teh floor of the cargo area that are in every car. But the plastic d-rings must be added and are included with the cargo net when ordered.

I would suggest you change your order OR wait until we see what fix Toyota comes up with and add it yourself later. It was very simple in the 2G requiring the drilling of 2 holes using a simple paper template as a guide.

Yes, thanks to your alert, we made sure to check this issue. I couldn't wait for them to fix it, as I was on a tight time schedule. So I'm having it fixed on Monday.

Kudos to Avondale Toyota!!! Chuck, my sales manager, immediately committed to having it fixed, noted it in the sales paperwork, and personally introduced me to the assistant service manager and explained the issue. Very professionally handled, indeed.

I hope others who encounter this issue will be treated with the same respect.

The 2G cargo net anchors in a different spot than the 3G. 2G is right below the screw next to where the toneau cover locks in place when extended. 3G is further in mounted to the trim panel itself.

Is that report generally available to Toyota Service Managers?

I see the separation happening already, so I'd like to get my dealer to make the correction. Should I have the Service Manager contact Avondale Toyota, or is there a better way to handle it?

The Service Manager submitted a quality report through their channels but I don't know if that's distributed to other dealers or just internal to Toyota. I'm also not aware of how long it would take to get propagated down the line.

Worst case, they could always call Avondale Toyota. They'll surely blame me though ;)

Could that possibly to help keep the cargo in the net further into the cargo area?

I know with the current one, sometimes things get squished when the hatch is closed because the bags are all lined up fairly close to the edge of the hatch. With the top mounted a little further back, maybe that'll tilt the net and help keep the bags away from the hatch.

I decided to just use one of those canvas cargo boxes for that reason (also helped that I already had one and that GST gave me the wrong cargo net).

Tideland, I haven't tossed much into this cargo net, but that was a frequent problem w/ the '04 and that cargo net setup. I'll try it out this weekend.

I can say this new cargo net is several inches taller, and possibly actually useful for a gallon of milk!

That explains it. Great pics, dear! Thanks... I sure appreciate the heads up too - I have a few cars arriving with cargo nets and hope the LB port facility is ON this issue!!!

I ordered the cargo net as a port option, but SET Jacksonville did not have it stock. I'll order it later or hopefully from PC Shop.
Got some groceries yesterday including a small seedless watermelon. All in the Prius cargo area. Well, driving home, I'm hearing clunk....clunk...clunk while braking or accelerating. About a block from the house..."Oh crap - hope that watermelon didn't break open. Thankfully no. But the net would have been a perfect holder - or if I used my head, the rear floor... dope slap.

Rick - does the tonneau cover still latch with the net attached up higher?

The slot visible in the picture above the anchor point is where the tonneau cover locks in. Problem is I've scratched the panels a few times being clumsy with the cover getting it secured.

Yes - so do I!!! Can I get it addressed at the dealership if it's not before I take possession?

Thank you for this. I have a net and I did notice this separation (also the scratching, but that's my fault). I will look into getting this fixed...maybe during my 5000 oil service.
