Does the simulation help and reveal the difference?

Yes, the Iconic and 2010 Prius seems to be the most aerodynamic. 3 vote(s) 16.7%

Video of 2010 Prius Aerodynamic Simulation and more

From the Blue man crew commercial thread, I made the first aerodynamic video of the 2010 Prius with regards to the tail arc with the shape of a boomerang. Rokeby sparked my interest in finding the significant of the boomerang in the video.

As I did more videos, I got better at it. I did the Volt Production simulation last and it came out to be the best looking. When I have time and more official side view pics, I will redo the 2010 Prius simulation.

FYI, I used the Flow Illustrator, free of charge and the author noted that it was optimized for the speed but not accuracy.

4 votes and 0 replies. I thought they are interesting videos. I noticed the differences between 2010 Prius and the Volt concept.

The 2010 Prius aero curve is more smooth with an almost perfect arc. The Volt concept looks like it shoots through the air like a bullet.

Anyone wanna make a guess what's the 2010 drag coeff cd?

Will it beat the current 0.26?

Is it legal to use a car while playing football there? I guess it is a logical progression from the armour and padding. The low emissions will be a bonus though.nco

The slightly flatter run on the hatch of the 2010 appears to produce a little less drag, but it is so close that it is hard to see much difference between the iconic and the 2010.

It's pretty much all in the details. One obvious difference between the 2010 and iconic is the sharp edge on the back bumper sides and tail lights.

Nice videos. What settings did you use on FI?

P.S. Flow illustrator works better if your image is a cross section through the middle. The wheels stop the "flow" so you don't get a good look at under car flow.

Mathworks, Inc has developed simulation model of Prius electrical system. Here is the architecture and some results.
