181k miles? That's right at the end of the service life on a Prius (per toyota). I think to pay $86xx.xx is very high for something with that many miles. I'm actually surprised this is being sold by a dealer as they usually don't sell that high of mileage cars. I'm assuming this is in no way a Toyota dealer right?

Thanks for response . The car is at authorized Toyota Dealer.

    Thanks

If you've never owned a Prius or hybrid car before, I highly suggest you buy a lower mileage example so you can get a good feel of the car (hopefully without problems). If your first Prius is going to be at the end of the service life (181k miles), you may never ever buy another Prius again if problems start to arise and you spending thousands in fixing it. The car with 60k miles sounds like a good start

The car is at Stone Mountain Toyota in Lilburn, GA 30047, it is a Toyota Dealer. I tried to post web link, but the forum did not allow me.
    Thanks

In general you would want to get a car that's preferably 1 owner and has most of it's service records and maintenance services already performed. You can also pay a different Toyota dealer to check the car out before you buy it, that shouldn't cost more than $200 and will provide peace of mind. You can use KBB.com or similar pricing guides to determine the pricing in your specific area.

Make sure the package level is correct. Many dealers do not list the car's package correctly. Some will list a Package 2 to be a Package 5. If you don't know, you might be suckered into paying more.

Here is the car the OP is referring to.

Used 2010 Toyota Prius IV For Sale in Lilburn GA | Stock: TA1034351 | Serving Atlanta

Carfax looks like someone did a fairly good job at keeping up on maintenance with such a high mileage.

Pics look like it is in fairly good shape. That mileage tells me that if this is the far end of your budget with little room for expensive repairs, this isn't the right car. However, if you have some extra cash on the side for possible repairs it may be worth the gamble.

Thanks to all of you for suggestions and concerns.

How much this 2010 Toyota Prius could cost in major maintenance and repairs , in worst case

    Battery
    Other parts?

In mean time any suggestions are welcome!
Will think about it and decide next week.

If 4 years old that's 45K miles average per year; if 5 years it's 36K miles per year. Spit the difference and you have about 40,000 miles per year.

What kind of usage from two different owners puts that kind of mileage on a car? I'd want to know.

For something with 180,000 miles on it that is one clean car.

if everything went? (unlikely) depends on how you go about it. at a dealer $10 - 15,000. diy with salvage parts, $3 - 5,000.

I just got a prius for my in law a few months ago. 2010 with 48k miles...prius two model. $11.5k total out the door. I think we got a deal though. Most used prius owners are pretty proud! That is why I purchased mine new :D

What were the prices on cars in your area when you visited truecar.com or AAA? is it a base IV, IV-Solar, or IV-NAV?
