    Some things of interest:


    On Prius model 1227:
    • Driver and front passenger water repellant windows (like permanent rain x on the windows?)
    • Step Lamp (ok, call me dumb but is that like a light under the sideview mirrors that illuminates the ground?)
    • Upgraded front and center pillars (so I guess we were onto something about the pillars being smooth on some and appearing felt trimmed on others)

    They have a typo under standard exterior features. Still showing 185 tire size there.

    Turning circle 17.1 for 15" and 18 for 17". Sorry, someone will need to explain to me how tire size affects turning circle so dramatically.

    Not sure I had seen "high solar energy absorbing glass" before.

    The 17" tires are wider (215mm vs 195mm) so the wheels can not turn as much without rubbing, I guess.

    I believe the offset of the 17" is 40mm instead of 35mm for the 15".

    Just out of curiosity, why are manufacturer/pro photos of cars always so dark or seemingly taken in shadows or twilight? Do they think the shadows help emphasize the lines, or that bright sunlight distorts the colors? Seems like you hardly ever see normal daylit professional photos of cars. On same topic, why is it professional photographers with high end cameras, lenses and filters don't seem to be able to capture the in person luminesence or other qualities of pearl or metallic paints?

    I think the photos on the Toyota site are very nice. The problem with taking photos in bright sunlight is the contrast. Shadows are too dark or the lights are blown out. Taking photos in diffused light allows for even exposure across the image (foreground, background and main subject) while still rendering nice color saturation.

    I think that if one got a close up shot you might be able to better appreciate the reflective qualities, but remember that the reason those types of finishes look nice is due to motion...the "glitter" in the paint reflects light in different directions so as either the observer or the vehicle move the reflection off of the "glitter" creates the luminescent effects that look so nice. A still camera can only freeze the light from one spot.

    Water repellent windows? Far out. That was something I suggested ages ago in a brainstorming thread, though I was thinking of electrostatic. I guess the turbo was too expensive, or maybe not in keeping with the Prius's image.

    So anyone know for certain what the step lamp is? Maybe it is just footwell lighting(?)

    Also, do they mean just the side windows in the front on the drivers and passenger side are water repellent? What about the windshield, wouldnt that matter most?

    All in all, one impressive car made further impressive by a few more details today. :) Can't wait for May! (crossing fingers for April, but doubtful)

    I do not know for certain, but when I googled "Water Repellent Car Windows", this is what I found:

    "In automobiles, water-repellent glass would improve safety by helping drivers see better, especially during inclement weather." Reading the whole article explains that a little better, but it seems that it is an 'advanced' Rain-X like product, to improve the safety of the Prius. (I could not post this link, as I am too new o the forum, but will give to any of you who may like to have it/post it)

    That said, I cannot imagine why they would want those only on the side windows, as it would seem to make sense to place this on the main windshield as well. Until I learn more, this is a guess.

    my lexus has it on side windows - it basically changes how the rain comes down the windows, obviously there is still watter on the windows it doesnt dissapear... I was driving wife's Auris today and there is huge difference in visibility between those two windows that made it quite hard for me to drive Auris in rain :).

    it basically lets you see a lot better through the side windows in rain, which would be very helpful under any conditions...

    The turning circle of 18' has to be a typo. (yes, I saw it on Toyota's own spec sheet).

    The G1 has a turning circle of 30.5' and the G2 is 34.1'.
