At Prius Connection LA, I was able to pair my Blackberry Curve 8900 with the new 2010 Toyota Prius and test Bluetooth Audio. Regrettably, this was impromptu and I didn't have a CD or audio cable to compare to, but found the audio performance to be acceptable. During a song I did hear some compression noise, but that could have been just as much the source as the connection.

When the phone was paired, both the stereo headphone profile and the audio/video control profile were used. The handsfree profile was eventually integrated once the device re-paired w/ the car. Pairing from the phone screen didn't automatically carry over to the audio screen, however. This could have been a "feature" or a software quirk on a pre-production model.

My wife was in the driver's seat and helping me control the songs. You can play/pause from the screen and choose next/previous songs from the device playlist using the steering wheel buttons. In this test, it didn't seem the car would display the song title or play list, which DICE or the Toyota iPod solution could provide. Either way, a great way to listen to podcasts or new music from the Blackberry or other Bluetooth device.

This, regrettably, is the only video I can post until 3/25.

I did not notice any USB input but I wasn't looking very closely either.

One thing I didn't like was the AUX input was in the back of the center console. The lower part of the console near the 12V outlet and seat heaters would have been much easier and ergonomic seeing as the 12V outlet is there as well as a little storage area to just lay it down in, granted you wouldn't be able to use your iPod while it is down there without reaching to get it but with a DICE kit, you shouldn't have to.

Hmm, I should have checked to see if the bluetooth was compatible with my iPhone while I was there!

iphone compatibility, including full contacts transfer, was confirmed at Chicago show. They've tested it on a venza, which uses the same system. Audio streaming will require use on an add-on bluetooth device, since the ipone doesn't directly support bluetooth audio streaming.

USB is a dealer added feature. We already know this from Detroit.

Much better voice recognition. Colors are deeper. Readability seemed better to my aging eyes. Someone else can speak to technical changes.

I didn't get to test this, but it feels that all screens are common and transition between them is a fade effect between the two. Previously, it felt like the MFD switched video modes to go from audio and climate features, to those that were NAV related.

The NAV unit is a Gen6 Denso unit w/ DVD based info. The DVD MAP version in the prototype is 8.1 (same as I have), but I keep my fingers crossed that the production version will see a slightly higher rev.

I assume the I agree has been disabled after the first time as in the 2008 model?
Any chance that a passenger can enter data while moving like the new Lexus Nav?
    Thanks For The Reply's.

I agree self-accepts after 5 seconds, which is the best of both worlds.

See video of this from Detroit:

I have searched high and low for this 'add-on' device for my 3g iPhone, to make it work with my 3G Prius... Anyone know where I can get this add on?

When I mentioned this in Chicago, I was told there is a Jabra device that would make the iphone work with this feature. After a little research, I think they may have been referring to the Jabra SP700 Bluetooth Car Kit, but I’m not sure.

"Ggood", thanks for this info. When I looked it up, however, that is simply a bluetooth 'hands free' speakerphone, which clips onto your visor, as opposed to sending bluetooth to the car itself.

Having research a little more, I have now found this: "Brando iPhone INFINXX Bluetooth Adapter" (Link available via PM), Which seems to be designed to do the bluetooth streaming specifically.

A little googling turns up the Infinxx and other possibilities that may work, including this one from Sony:
    [ame="http://www.amazon.com/Sony-Bluetooth-Wireless-Transmitter-Black/dp/B000XRW09Y/ref=cm_cr_pr_pb_t"]Amazon[/ame]
    and this one from Australia:
    Australia

There may be other A2DP transmitters that are universal, i.e., can be used with any A2DP capable receiving device. I think I'll let someone else be the guinea pig for this. I'll just go with the hardwired option for now.

HINT TO TEAM PRIUS: Still waiting for additional information on the USB ipod connectivity option and when it will be available.
