I just completed my annual Consumer Reports survey and included feedback on my 2010 Prius. While completing the survey, I was asked specifically about oil consumption and performance of my vehicle in snow. The oil-consumption question seemed very unusual for a general survey and I'm wondering if these survey questions were in some way tailored for a Prius (or Toyota)? I did respond favorably about my Prius so I'm quite sure that these odd questions were not follow-up to some other response. So, has anyone competed this survey for a different vehicle?

do not know. I noticed the same when I did the survey on my 2012 "v" wagon.

I noticed that they emailed the survey to me as a former subscriber.

I guess they are after a larger representative sample and wider demographic.

There are lots of concerns about oil consumption on the Prius. The survey probably wanted to address that issue.

FWIW, this is the first car we've had that seems to consume zero oil between changes, at least so far, a bit over 50,000 km's.

I have not had any that uses oil since I have been driving Nissan, Honda, Lexus, Mazda, and Toyota. My three Kubotas don't use any oil either. My 38 yr old Italian Acme uses a little oil so I have to check that before each use.

I was asked about oil consumption on both my cars (Prius & Odyssey), so I don't think it is specific to the car. As a market researcher, the data would not be meaningful if it was only asked for one particular make/model.

I have a 2014 Prius3 and a 2015 Mazda 3. No oil consumption for either. I have not had a modern car that consumed oil since my 1952 Chevy Bel Air. It consumed one quart per thousand miles which was normal at the time.

relax, the consumption issue doesn't start in toyotas until 70,000-90,000 miles.

There are lots of concerns about oil consumption on the Prius.

Really - Any documentation to support that?

I know there is a problem with some Camry's 2007 to 2009 models. We just got an extended warranty letter on our '09 TCH covering it for 10 years or 150,000 miles. So far it has 75,000 miles and it uses a little over a quart in 5,000 miles, so hopefully it doesn't get worse as it ages.
The Prius has almost 8,000 miles on it and had the oil changed at 5,000 miles. I will be getting oil changes every 10,000 miles in the future. So far no indication of any oil use - knock on wood.

There are many reports of the oil burning issues, whether they are actual "facts" I wouldn't know. I own 4 priis and all 4 burn oil. So based on that, I'm at 100% based on my experience with my own cars.

If your car is not burning oil, great. Many on here don't have issues. I must have 4 defective cars.

you really have to tell us all you do to your cars. it's very important to know it, so we would just the opposite.

Basically I just drive it. So to avoid the oil burning issue, I guess you would have to not drive it.

Our 2007 has 160+K miles and our 2011 has 80K+ miles. No oil consumption on either. BTW I changed the 2007 to synthetic (Mobil 1) around 100K miles.

Same here, with two newer cars in the household (Prius & Forester), it asked about oil consumption on both.
