So I have a gray prius iv on order and called the dealer and asked them to change my order for the blizzard pearl color. He says there's an additional $220 charge for that color because that color paint is actually more expensive than the other colors.....

Please enlighten me with your opinions before i give mine...

There's an extra step in the painting process for pearl paint (base coat, pearl coat, clear coat), vs. non-pearl.

He is correct, and you can confirm this on the Toyota website to 'build your own'. I have a Prius V in Blizzard, and happily paid the $220 premium for the 3 layer paint vs. a 2 layer paint, but only cause it looked so damn good!

It's worth every penny. Just look at it side by side with other colors offered. Also, similar paint colors are extra priced by most manufacturers.

I believe that $220 is less than what most other car manufacturers charge for similar pearlized paint colors.

hey guys...thanks for your replies! i'm sure one time or another that you've been screwed in the past by salemen whether it be a car or a TV. My guard was just up and wanted to find out from the prius public what you guys thought. Many thanks to your feedback and if we were all at a bar right now...I'd buy the first 17 rounds!

No need to apologize, that is what this type of forum is for. I'd let you buy me a round, only if the next one was on me. That is what friends are for.

I'm still debating whether to change the color. I'm stuck between the gray and blizzard pearl.....both nice colors!

I've owned pearl coat white vehicles in the past and Toyota's Blizzard Pearl, imo, is by far the nicest. It doesn't have that yellowish tint to it like others do. And the 3G Prius looks absolutely fantastic in it!

What exactly is Pearlized coating? I've been searching around and haven't really found a good description.

I don't mind paying the extra especially with the metallic look on a classic white color. Its really distinctive looking. I'm just hoping its actually more functional in terms of durability, chip resistance, fade resistance, yellowing resistance etc.

Don't bet on it being more durable or chip resistant.

I don't think so either, it's just more 'aesthetically pleasing' if the pearl look is your thing.

$220 is very little to pay for this process compared to what other manufacturers charge...

This photo doesn't really capture the pearl, but it does capture the metallic.

I'm pleased with all of the colors offered for the 2010 Prius. I think they all look good on their own. And more importantly, they all look good on the Prius.

For the Gen II Prius, I think it looked best in Barcelona Red.

For the 2010 Prius, I think it looks best in Blizzard Pearl, especially with the Solar Roof.

Worth every extra penny. I have owned quite a few white cars, including a BMW, and this one blows all of them away.

Devil's Advocate: Would any body work/repainting be more expensive (or harder to match) on the Blizzard Pearl because of the three coats versus two coats for the other colors?

Thats a great question. I would imagine that the cost would also go up for repairs.
