I just ordered a Prius yesterday (5/29/08) and it will be 5-6 mos before it arrives. We waited too long to order... The sales person said it will likely be a 2009 model which is the same as the 2008. This will be our second - we got our first in Dec 2001. It has 160,000 miles on it and still going strong. My husband and I just have to work out who gets to be the primary driver on the new one. We'll have lots of time to decide.
I just ordered my 2009 Prius Touring with Package #6 today! They are actually holding my order until they can formally process it (supposedly 06/08/08 or 06/10/08). I opted to wait the few extra weeks to order the 09' for future resale value for when I upgrade to the Gen lll when it comes out in 2010/11.
The sales lady at our dealership didn't say anything about holding our order so we could get the 2009 - just that it would probably be a 2009... I hope for the reasons you mentioned that we end with a 2009. I'm really interesed in moving up to the gen III too.
I was placed on a waiting list on April 26th -- number 6. My '08 with pkg. 2 will be arriving on June 10th. That's about a 6 week wait. I'm pleased. Good luck to all of you -- good things come to those who wait!
Hmm, I'm number 12 on my dealer's list, which means another month or so for me. My dealer told me maybe august, probably september and that I will likely get an 09 version. Waiting is the difficult part *Sigh*
Well it turned out to be only a 6 week wait. Now we are a 2 prius family. I'm going to keep driving my 2002 and my husband is parking his truck and driving the new one.
