66.1 Mpg !! See It To Believe It !!

First thing in the morning i went to a gas station and filled up a gas after that i reset MPG, this is i always do.
So i drove to a highway with about 60-69 MPH, the first 41 miles i got 63 MPG, i will show a pic in below.


So i kept travel until i reached my destination and i got 66.2MPG.

I do not modify my prius at all. I just bought it 2 months ago and i have 5500 miles on it. I practice driving it everyday to find out how to get more MPG. I can still run 70-70 mph and got about 50.1 mpg.
I don't really drive in city so i think i could get more MPG if i drive in city.
I will tell you everything about my tips later.

congrats but honestly i don't think it's anything to be excited about unless you can get a full tank at 66.1 mpg, as i'm sure several priuschatters can get that for a bit until they turn off the car. so come back and show us what you got after your done with your tank.

THESE ARE MY DRIVING TIPS AND I AWAYS KEEP MY EYE TO IT :
1. SET ALL TIRES TO 45 PSI
2. SET AC TO LOW AND ABOVE 72 FF (OFF YOUR AC MIGHT HELP YOU A LOT AS WELL)
3. ALWAY FILL HALF A TANK OF GAS
4. CLEAN YOUR AIR FILTER BY AIR BLOW IF YOU PLAN TO GO ON A LONG TRIP (REPLACE IT IF IT GETS DIRTY)
5. GO BETWEEN 60-69 MPH ( I ONLY DRIVE ABOUT 65 THE MOST SO THAT'S WHAT I GOT MORE MPG)
6. RELEASE GAS PENAL WHENEVER YOU SEE A SLOW TRAFFIC IN FRONT OF YOU ( I SAVE ALOT OF GAS ON THIS # 6 TIP)

* SOME OF PRIUS OWNERS MIGHT FIND THESE TIPS USEFUL AND SOME ARE NOT. SO I AM JUST GIVING MY TIPS TO YOU GUYS AND JUST WANT EVERY BODY TO SAVE MORE MONEY ON GAS.

Do you mean that you only fill to half a tank, or do you mean that when you get to half a tank you fill up? Congratulations on the mpgs.

I think what saechaka is saying is it will be harder to get this mileage on a full tank because it uses more fuel to warm the engine from cold starts. When you recorded this trip the engine was already hot.
All that aside you have done a very good job, I think the most important tip is once the wheels start to turn keep them turning, that is do what ever you need to do to keep moving including lifting that right foot early and avoiding any braking.

Something else I do is if I find my speed going a little high down a hill on the highway at highway speeds, I don't just lift my foot and coast down to speed I try to keep the engine running at a low consumption like 1.5L/100km and slow down over a greater distance. This avoids conversion losses from charging and recovering energy from the battery. Also speed up a little before a hill and allow speed to drop a little as you climb. I only do this if no one is watching.

Only fill up half a tank so this way will keep your car in a light weight.
Always clean up your air filter whenever you fill up a gas. If your air filter gets dirty then you might want to replace it as well.

A half full tank saves about 30 lbs of weight, less than 1%. Is it really worth the bother?

Don't despair when you MPGs drop below 50. Unusually good MPGs are common immediately after a fillup because the car is already warmed up.

Certainly a significant amount of weight can have an adverse effect on fuel economy, but the impact of 5-6 gallons of fuel is negligible. You might end up burning more fuel than it saves by having to stop more often to refuel.

Here is a pic. of my best tank so far just took this pic this morning It only held 10.5 gallons..I love this car!!!! Congrats on your good MPG try and go a whole tank and see what kind of MPG's and how many miles but dont run out of gas... I run 44(front) and 42(rear) and run between 62-65 MPH on Interstate..

Sandman, that's phenominal. For my 335 mile trip to San Diego I usually get 55mpg when I hit LA and then something happens between LA and San Diego because I drop to 45mpg.

Now, you gotta do it over an entire tank, then post it in the stickey, "I beat the EPA".

And clean your MFD for God sake!

The best I've been able to do is 52 so far. I've only had it for a month and everyday I'm changing the way I drive.

I wish I didn't have to go up so many hills on my drive.

Your excitement is terrific -- The real trick will be to maintain that high MPG over the course of about 3/4 tank (when you'd be re-fueling)

In the warm weather, my last 2 tanks have given me about 63 MPG -- and just as you're doing, no mods, just technique. It's boggling, isn't it!

For most of their length in this area (Utah & Nevada) the speed limit on the Interstate is 75 mph. Running 65 mph or less could get you run over (or run off the road) by semis. When I have the time and am interested in improving mileage, I take secondary highways with speed limits of 60 or 65 mph for that reason.

I spent several hours last Sunday telling passersby at an Earth-fest
sort of thing about the "crossover point" for the car -- 62 at 62,
where the MPH meets the MPG. Go faster, get less MPG, go slower,
get more. It just seems to be about what the car is capable
of steady-state on the highway. That's generally by locking
your foot in positions that run the engine in efficient, high-
load states and avoiding the cruise-control, which is too aggressive
or allows poor-efficiency states. It's okay to let a little
speed bleed off on the uphills and get it back on the downs,
too, within reason.
