It took the Glendale, Wisc, man 17 years to cross the million mile mark with his 1989 Saab 900 SPG. He recently donated the durable vehicle to the Wisconsin Automotive Museum after Saab verified the mileage.
Not many cars go a million miles. I've heard of a Mercedes, a Volvo, maybe a Honda....anybody left out?
the only difference with that volvo is that it didn't have the orignial engine. My dad had a 87 900S that was supposedto be my first car until he wrecked a few hundred miles before 500k. It still didn't even burn oil.
There was a 1 million mile Honda Accord mentioned in either Road and Track or Motortrend. I have a Xerox copy of the article that I'll have to dig up and post snippets from sometime. I recall the guy's 1st odometer died in the ~300K mile range and his replacement was indicating in the neighborhood of 680K. It was still on its original engine and transmission.
I understand that because of his efforts, Saab is giving any original owner who puts a million miles on their Saab a brand new one - I think Mr. Gilbert gets a brand new '07 9-5 Aero. Pretty sweet deal. I wonder if my 9-3SS will make it that far... :-/
