I just wanted to share my accident story from this past weekend.
I was leaving the grocery store (a trip I take every week) when another driver hit me in the front left running a red light.
Prius III vs. Nissan Rogue- Prius III did not need to be towed, whereas the Rogue did (granted different angles of impact). All involved in the accident left their cars uninjured (thankfully!)
I was able to drive my car home at 15 mph for 2 miles- although the steering was a bit funny, the traction control kept turning on and the driver's side door will not open.
At the end of the day I am so proud of my prius- it kept me and my fiancé safe. We were both impressed by how well it took the impact.
I am awaiting the insurance appraiser to come out on Friday- I am nervous to hear what he says.
I know it may be hard to tell from the pictures- but any guesses on the repair costs?
(the fluid on the asphalt is not mine)

Glad to hear that everyone came out of this alright! :)

Hopefully, your Prius can be repaired, or you get a fair amount for totalling it.

I hear there are some complicated hybrid components in the front but I know absolutely nothing about that. If it is repaired just make sure everything is working okay. Bad day for you but cars can be repaired or replaced. You or your passenger did not have any injuries and that is the main thing. If it were my car and it is repaired, after it is repaired, I would take it to the Toyota service department and have everything checked out.

Glad you were unhurt, and your Prius served you faithfully. I hope everything works out quickly without too much inconvenience.

I'd be curious to know if the frame is too damaged.

Never can tell, could have been a leak in the radiators and inverter and or ICE damaged from overheating.

Hard to tell, but could be the front suspension is unscathed.

Oh hang on, looking at the picture with the other vehicle still in contact, probably scathed.

From the looks of it, the tire and wheel took the brunt of the damage. If it was a little further front or back it would have been worse. You never know if there is frame damage from a picture like that. But most likely you will need suspension work, door skin, fender, hood, bumper, headlight and lots of misc parts like the plastic bits under the car for airflow. The fuse box and other things in the engine compartment might be dislodged/broken. Looks like at least $5K in damage, but not totalled if no frame damage.

sorry to hear...the most important thing is that you guys are OK.

My insurance for the Prius costed about 700$ more per year than my previous car it replaced..I am assuming because the Prius is a complex vehicle to repair. The $12,000 estimate is probably more of what it would cost.

Wow, glad to see you're okay, and especially not at fault. Just more testament to how reliable priuses are if you were able to drive it home under its own power.

Is the appraisal from the insurer, or body shop?
