Hello, I am new to the forum but have a simple question. I have three Prius hybrids. The most recent is a 2007 that has leather interior but no navigation or Smart Key feature. ALthough I have never thought that the Nav system in Toyota (or my new Lexus RX-450 hybrid for that matter) was all that great, but I would love to have the Smart Key feature working. Can the Smart Key and on-board NAV systems be activated or is there an aftermarket chip or something that will activate them or is it a system wide issue that is not possible after the fact? Any help is welcome and appreciated.

If the car was built without the smart key option it does not have the equipment (i.e. door and inside transmitters and receivers) I don't think it would be practical to try to install it, if it could even be done. Same would be true of the nav system, no GPS receiver, no DVD drive, etc.

I guess I was looking mroe for the ability to start the vehicle without inserting the key. THe locks are not as big of a deal since the key has a FOB built in...I assume all of the key have the RFID tag or whatever it is that allows the car to detect and identify them. What woudl need to be added to the vehicle to get that function working?

I don't know the answer, you might check with a Toyota dealer and find out if it can be done and what they would charge if it can. I don't think anyone on this site has tried to do that.
