Have had our '10 Pkg III for about a month now, and love it. The only option I didn't get that I really would have liked is heated seats. Has anyone had the dealer swap them in? Do they have to be leather? Is it even possible to do correctly, even by the dealer? Thanks for any input. Cheers, Ron
I had them installed in my 03 pick up at a cost of $500 for the pair just about any customizing shop will do it Will get it done on the Prius, I understand the cost is still $500
If you get Okole seat covers you can get the heated seat option. Mine works great, much better than the stock heated seats on my CR-V.
From the Katzkin thread: I called around looking for someone to install it, got crazy quotes, then found an old thread which mentioned a place in So cal :: COACH AUTOMOTIVE RESTYLING CONTACT INFO :: PORTLAND RESTYLERS :: NORCAL RESTYLERS :: LOS ANGELES RESTYLERS :: KANSAS CITY RESTYLERS :: UNION CITY COACH AUTO :: PORTLAND COACH AUTO :: ORANGE COACH AUTO :: UNION CITY COACH AUTO :: KANSAS CITY COACH . They are also in No cal, LA, Portland, and ?). I called, explained my predicament - I pulled the seat thinking I could do.......... They got me in same day, and in hours, my covers were installed (while I watched). These are the guys the dealer would send your car to... Buy a decent pair of heats from either Kat, or one off Ebay, and take it to them - the whole job would likely be less than an hour....
Thanks to everyone for their responses. If I am going to do this, I really want it to end up as factory installed -- i.e. the factory seats with the factory buttons, etc. Doesn't sound like anyone has attempted that route -- so I will ask at my first service in a couple of months and see how hard the dealer laughs. Cheers, Ron
that factory button location is insane. I plan on putting the buttons down on the side like my caddy had
The dealer will not do the work - they will send it - likely to Coach... The switches are readily order-able through your dealer
If I get a set of seat heaters like this - 2 seat Carbon Fiber Universal Heated Seat Heater Kit :eBay Motors (item 160368588212 end time Oct-12-09 17:21:59 PDT) , will you guys be able to help me find a switched hot lead to get it hooked up? Maybe the hot lead to the CLA in the console?
Do the Okale seat heaters plug into the 12 V accessory plug? I oculd not tell from the web site. Also do they have a high and low setting. Thanks
You have the right idea. Unfortunately it probably will not be possible to have it done and still be warranteed by Toyota or by a Toyota dealer - and there is the risk of other problems if an after-market installer does it, such as messed up airbags. In my opinion the best option is to do nothing. Jim
Tim, Did you get to doing this? Now that it's summer, i'm anxious to get some seat heaters in mine. I'd like to know more about how it went. Which interior pieces did you need to remove? Thanks, Eric
no, I sold my house in April and didn't get into my new house until about 4 weeks ago, and still haven't done anything to it. I haven't even washed my car since April... it's bad...LOL
Thanks. Good luck. I've got a III, and I notice that the interior fuse box has a 10 Amp fuse for each of the driver and passenger seat heaters - although I don't know if the wiring harness is the same for my III and a IV (which would have included the seat heaters). If the harness is the same -in theory- I could pick up the stock switch and heating elements, and the wiring part of install could be a snap. I looked under my seats, and there are lots of wires under there, but I think they're mostly related to the Side Impact air bag, occupancy detection, seat position, and seat belt insertion. Any one know what wiring is (or is not) already in place for such an attempt? Thanks so much, Eric Does anyone have
Wiring Harness Help:Add heated seats to a III ? Thanks. I'm really looking for an OEM-type of install. At this point, my real question (for anyone who has access to a wiring diagram, or knowledge about the harness) is: Is the wiring for the seat heaters (and switch) still on the III, even though the III does not offer heated seats? (And, if so, does any one have access to a parts catalog to call out the part numbers that would be necessary to add the OEM seat heaters to my III?) (I know that sometimes it's just easier and more economical to keep the same wiring harness regardless of actual build-out). Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Hey Tim, Just following up - did you ever try to install seat heaters? I just drove my wife's car this morning (VW Tiguan) with seat heaters, and I really want some - but don't necessarily want to pay someone to do it - but also am a bit afraid of just diving in myself without someone else a bit smarter or handier than me to point out a few tips... Thanks eric
