Thanks Jim. That's an interesting and probably accurate assessment. It took two hours for them to deliver the $3000. quote and the service rep. simply asked me how much the light being on bothered me. He ignored my questions about whether the air bags would fail or not. I do think it would be to the dealerships' credit to come up with a more customer focused response - i.e. admitting it was a loose wire and taking the 5 minutes to adjust it vs. the outrageous turn-away. Guess it's a good gamble to see if a customer's willing to spring between $500. and $3000. to have it fixed. (the rates mentioned by all posters regarding this problem.)

See Jim's post above. It probably describes the situation accurately. It's outrageous that dealerships quote $500 to $3000. in different cases for the same problem when it would take only a few mintues to identify a loose or fualty wire under the seat. After all, I spent tops 5 minutes firming connections andchecking if a wire was obviously broken and the light has been working perfectly since I did that. I'd be happy to get it "fixed properly" if the price was reasonable. So sorry about the Oak Tree! Hope you were fully covered.

Wish I still had the '05. I could describe the wire and connection that was the issue on mine. Think it was yellow and had a square-shaped connector with a plastic wire tie holding it up against the bottom of the seat. It was definitely the square connector that was the issue. If it were me (and, yeah ... I agree and it sucks that Jim's probably right), I might see if I could find a dealer who'd just do the right thing. Like I said, it's a known issue. Failing that, might see what's involved in ordering what I needed to return it to good working order myself.

Good luck w. it all. (And, yep, the '05 was covered. Still ... I miss that car.)

Seriously? Floor wiring harness has been a known issue for many years?

Sorry for the very tardy response. I am still going to Champion. Mainly because of lack of options. I do think at some point sharing customers responses with the powers that be over at Champion may be helpful.

If this has been an issue for many years with some of our cars, maybe we could get a pic of the wire and connection with tiestrap in place. It may help us in the future.

Years ago when I bought a F250 the pass. airbag light was on (stating airbag was off) because of that it wouldn't pass safety inspection. I checked on a Ford truck forum and it was a common issue. Behind the light there was a pc board that operated the light, a diode commonly burnt out causing the light to come on. From what I read the airbag would still work, just the light was malfunctioned. It was an easy fix, I think .79 cents from Radio shack.
As they put it nobody took there truck to the "Stealership". They helped each other as we do here, but they had many more howto sections with pics and videos. I know our Prii are new and still under warranty but this forum is the base for others and ourselves in the years to come when our cars are out of warranty.
So lets keep documenting issues and fixes and hypermileing on!!!
