Like the title says, how long did you own your new Prius before someone else got to put their hands on the wheel?

I have had mine over 3 yrs now and other than my wife my 28 yo daughter has driven it once. My two sons and I went out recently to celebrate my oldest's upcoming wedding and after a few beers I let the youngest son drive home. The next morning the big news was that I actually let him drive my car :)

Bought my new prius this August. Best friend was thinking of buying a prius so we swapped cars for 7 days and he paid for the gas on both cars. Surprisingly enough, I'd rather have him use the car than the wife

Well, not a Prius, but we started letting people test drive our new vehicle after two weeks.
I suspect most early adopters of the original Prius did the same when they were rare. Best way to spread the word is to get people behind the wheel. This was true for our Prius as well as our more recent cars.

Aside from one short local drive, my wife didn't drive my C until we took our 1350 mile road trip three months after I got the car. We split the driving pretty evenly on the trip, and her mileage was about the same as mine.

Possibly not relevant, but we both drove small stick-shift cars exclusively until a couple of years ago.

The first person, other than me, to drive my car was our elementary school science teacher (who has a 2008 Prius). I wanted her to see the difference between the two models. My wife didn't drive my car but once or twice in the first year I owned it. Probably less than 10 times in 2.5 years. My brother has driven it once.

    My car is.....precious......to me.

I wrote up a one-page Prius cheat sheet that I keep in the top glove compartment for when my girlfriend or daughter borrow the car. Here's my GF at the wheel while on vacation last month. (Pardon my finger - new phone.) at the wheel.jpg

My wife drove it last night for the first time. She did great and is taking it to work Monday and Tuesday since I'm working from home those days.

The littlest one only drives in my lap, so that doesn't scare me. The 15 year old with a permit terrifies me. She did really well even on the interstate but I was still nervous. I love my Prius.

Surely you don't operate the car with a kid in your lap, do you?

I'd have to be dead before anyone drives my Prius :D

My wife asked once and I told her to buy her own :) We never share our summer cars.

My mom has driven it twice and said the brakes and the acceleration are lame - she drives a 2010 Nissan Altima 3.5SR V6 with the sports pkg.

My dad has driven it a few times and avoids driving it whenever possible - said the visibility is downright dangerous.

Most of my friends would not want to be seen in a Prius so nope.

I like sharing so I go out of my way to let other people drive my cars as soon as I get them. I also like to drive other people's cars (to try new things), so an open policy helps that out as well.

If I know you I wouldn't mind giving you the keys if you asked. Its just a car after all.

I've let everyone from my work that wanted to drive it and my GF drives it to work when I'm cleaning her car. Everyone says it feels like driving a spaceship, pretty funny.

Wife made it to work, says she averaged 49.2mpg and loves the car. She can't wait for me to get sick of it so she gets it as a full time car.

The first day I got mine I let my dad drive it. He asks to borrow it once in a while (about once a month) when he's about to make a long trip. He's very conservative and gets 57 mpg average without even trying.

Everyone else (g/f included) is too intimidated by the car. They feel like they have to "learn" how to drive it since the instrument panel scares them a little.
