Anyone have Michelin Defender tires? What's your PSI (Air pressure)??

Costco did them at around 35psi.. and i'm getting roughly 5 mpg less than my old tires which were Goodyear assurance's. I don't recall what PSI those were set to as I had just got the car.

I guess in general, what is a good PSI to set my tire pressure to? Keep in mind i'm in Phoenix and the temps are going to be over 100 for the next couple of months.

    Thanks!

I would look at the side wall of the tire and set the pressure about two pounds less than the max pressure listed for the front and 4 pounds less for the rear. Your mileage will go up a few 2-3 mpg, maybe a little more. Just what I would do others will chime in! Enopy your car. :)

Interesting, I have heard that alot of Prius owners set to almost 40PSI.. I'll have to check the tires :) Still looking for more opinions as well.

    Love the car :)

I keep all 4 of my tires, Michelin Energy Saver AS (195.65.15) at 44 max sidewall pressure. My first
set of Energy Saver lasted nearly 70,000 miles at that pressure with perfect even tire wear....

Good info, I'll fill them up to probably 42 in the front and 40 in the back. To compensate for the Arizona heat. I know they did 35-38 at Costco so upping my PSI will help, and I know I need some time for them to break in.

While Defenders are indicated as LRR on TireRack, and Michelin bills them "Green X", I don't think they're in the same league as other LRR tires, just judging from comment on the web.

While there's some truth to tire RR improving with time, I doubt it's gonna change much. A good LRR tire will deliver impressive results from the outset. This "give it time" notion has got to be due in part to tire places trying to placate customers.

What will improve your mileage is the tire will force you to try even harder to recoup the difference. In your shoes, I'd just stick at it, up your pressures, and maybe replace them when they're down to about 6/32" remaining.

One plus: I believe their longevity is good, which will mean you're stuck with them for a while. ;)

Pressure upped it from an average of 48 to 52.. good enough for me.
