Picked up my Prius a week ago. It seems "alright." Doesn't blow me away. But I am sure I'll like it.

Does anyone have any interesting street racing stories?
    JIJIJIJIJIJIJIJIJI
I have one. I was on the highway merging when this young handsome guy in a blue Camaro from MO blew passed me. So I stepped on the gas and floored it and hit a buck 50(KMH) to catch up. As I passed him, he was tailgating me and almost hit me from the rear. Then he gave me the middle finger, and then he zoomed passed me. I lost.JIJIJIJIJIJIJIJI

    That is my story.

I raced a pack of bicycle racers on Pacific Coast Highway and lost. They cheated by blowing past the red light. I wonder if they were doping?

The G3 isn't the slowest car on the streets, but it does have enough grunt to get out of its own way and it's capable of acceptable acceleration on the interstate.
Handling isn’t its long suit either…unless you bolt on some “wanna-be” boy racer parts, but it is a low slung car and you can have some fun with it if you put your mind to it.
Here in America…..people race self-propelled lawn mowers.
    ‘Nuff Said. ;)

    But…..
Once upon a time a (*cough!*) co-worker of mine discovered that Priuses aren't electronically speed limited. I suppose that the folks in Aichi Japan thought that this would be extra-redundant. :)
    Anyway....here's the thing.
Most other cars in the US are.
Normally I'm not much for Nanny State regulations however (comma!) given the fact that most Americans are extremely poor drivers even before you add cell phones, GPS, 88-oz Slurpees, etc... I don't have any problem with electronically speed limiting cars and trucks.

So...this means that a G3 can outrun most pickemuptrucks, SUVs and many cars as well. You just have to have the intestinal fortitude (or lack of common sense) to drive three-digits to do so.
From what (insert air quotes) I've been told....a G3 Prius is quite capable of achieving and maintaining speeds well above 100-mph (160kph for our good neighbors to the North.) So you can stalk and reel in the occasional car/truck with a Prius if you really want to.
Since the ICE is assisted by the electric motor at (*cough*) launch…from zero to about 10 miles per hour the Prius accelerates rather briskly…especially when most Priuses are thought to be rolling road-blocks. So….you can surprise the occasional car in a city as well.
Try to resist the urge to brag at parties about the Subie that you bagged on your way to the Whole Foods though. :D

Street race in a Prius?
    Yeah. Right.
It's like street racing in a station wagon.
You can do it, but what's the point?
    A. You look goofy at best.
    B. That's not what station wagons are for.

If you want to impress a Camaro driver (whether they will admit it or not) do a "zero to 600 miles" run on $40.
    Me?
I'll usually be able to give you about $10 back. :D
    THATs where Priuses ROCK!

Yep. Prius is pretty slow in terms of acceleration vs. most currently sold passenger cars. See Fuel Economy vs. Performance | MPG vs. MPH - Consumer Reports and Best & Worst Acceleration | Quickest Vehicles - Consumer Reports.

OP should've bought a more powerful hybrid if they wanted better acceleration (e.g. HyCam or say a Lexus GS hybrid: Lexus challenges passengers to control their heart rates... in a hybrid :D).

I do NOT street race but have taken two of my much more powerful (287 hp and 255 hp) previous cars to the drag strip to run the 1/4 mile.

About a week or so ago, I was at a light on a 3 lane street (each side). The one lane I was on would eventually turn into a turning lane. So all I had to do was beat the old clunker next to me. The light turned green and I floored it. She obviously didnt expect it so it was no competition. Although, the Ford Mustang (also all blacked out like my car) in the far right lane for some reason thought I was trying to race him. It was not even close but I wasn't really aware we were racing. Once I knew I was way ahead of the clunker I slowed down and changed lanes. I know I cant compete and I'd rather get more MPGs than try to look cool racing a mustang.

LOL! I used to drive an 86 Olds Cutlass Ciera w/the 2.5L "Iron Duke" "Tech IV" 4-banger w/3-speed auto w/overdrive, IIRC. I believe it was a whopping 92 hp.

It's amazing how far cars have come into terms of power output from 4 and 6-cylinder engines compared to back, esp. when it comes to hp/liter.

Spin on a dime and toss back 9 cents change.

Been pleasantly surprised at when I need the Prius to step it up, she does so and with more power than her Dave Barry/Alan Zweibel described "food processor motor" (just about peed myself laughing at that one in Lunatics)

Have a family member with a souped up, lumpy cam '67 Camaro Super Sport... every car has its place except a few mistakes like the Aspen (disaster! Enough said!) and the Ford Ranger (abort, abort!!!!)

Quick off the line without the sustainability that muscle cars have built in IMHO....(good Gawd sounds like my own racing/practice times) but when all is said at shut down, those MPGs give me a smug smile.

And my diesel truck is getting jealous!

Speeding in a Prius sounds like an oxymoron!;) But it can be done much to the chagrin of the general population! :D
