The April issue of Scientific American has a good article about hybrids, including a cut-away illustration of the Prius explaining the hybrid components.
Also on a list of 10 hybrid vehicles, the Prius rates the best in such categories as anual fuel cost, annual CO2 emissions, MPG, etc.
