Did fuel economy standards actually go backwards?

Makes You Wonder How Far Along we would have been if the Auto Industry Did Not Fight The Mileage Standards All These Years.

That's the old EPA testing numbers. It wouldn't be rated 41MPG with the new standard.
The car is also super-light with no safety equipment. Probably would get 0 or 1 star all around in a current crash test.

I've owned a few K cars and they were all Crap! Well not all, some were Junk.
My parents made the awful mistake of switching from VW to Chrysler.
My Dad had a few choice words about Chysler after that. Phrases like "Never Again!" were heard often coming out of his mouth. I won't repeat everything he said. :lalala:
Oh and they didn't get 40mpg either but they did break often.

Also, they were able to take advantage of lean-burn technology but when the NOx emission standards were tightened they could no longer use lean-burn.

I loved my K-cars. They were all used vehicles purchased from the fleet at BC Hydro (our province's electricity provider). As long as there was tread on the all-seasons, the car was great to drive in the snow. The thing I miss that most is the front bench seat.

Assuming you mean CAFE standards, seeing as the CAFE numbers aren't based on current EPA test procedures (29MPG EPA = 39MPG CAFE etc.), it just might ;).

The stunning new features i remember most about the K car were
"The door armrest coming off in your hand" option
...along with the unending Vapor Lock, run-on--- special package----and the vaporizing exterior paint on roof and hood--custom package--

    regards
    Froley
