My guess is that the $140 is for the auto-folding module that receives the response to fold the mirror.

The $795 part is the motors that will fold the mirror in. For those that have power folding mirrors, they only need the $140 auto-fold module. For us, we need both parts so we're looking at close to $1k.

I bought mine from eBay seller MITACCESSORIES1 for $774 ($563 for the folding mirror kit, $129 for the signal mirror covers, and $82 for shipping). That's the seller that sells the signal mirror covers. I was simply buying the mirror covers to start with, then got to thinking that I'd like it if they folded, too. The folding mirrors are from a different Toyota in Japan, but they use them to do the folding mirrors on the Prius. You remove the motor/mechanical stuff out of the other Toyota car's mirrors and it fits right inside ours. Then they have all the wiring labeled for you, regarding where each wire connects in your car. They also send you the folding mirror button. It is actually from a Tacoma, I seem to remember, but fits ours. The one thing I just realized a week or two ago (it's still not fully wired up) is that there was no connection in the wiring they sent for the mirror heater/defroster. There's just two little metal prongs inside the mirror where the wires (formerly) connect. So my body shop dude just showed me today where he'd made two wires to run from those two and then they'll have to be wired over to the defroster button, when we get around to that. I'm not doing the wiring stuff until AFTER the car's exterior is finished. The wiring dude is mobile, and he said he'd come to my house to do all the wiring stuff I have for everything. That works out much better for me than sitting at some wiring place all day. And I'm keeping my car sealed up at the body shop cause it's so darned dusty with all the sanding and bodywork.

Gotcha! I was confused about what you were talking about, sorry! No, this wasn't anything that they list, or have ever listed, on eBay. I just asked him about it because he had bought several other things for me from Japan for the Prius, and he told me how they do it on Prius (aftermarket) over there using these parts from some other Toyota's folding mirror kit, custom wiring, and the button from the Tacoma. I never bothered asking which particular car model that the mirrors come from, but I just shot him an email and asked him....so I'll let you know what I find out!

I never felt a desire for my mirrors to tilt, so I don't know anything about these mirror tilting kits. The other thread discussing one of these kits just kinda fizzled out after talking about it only doing the driver's side mirror here in the U.S. There are probably kits out there that will do what you're wanting, but I've never researched it... Maybe one of those other posters will have run across the right kit(s) in his/her research of the matter.

Well, the seller was out of his country on a trip, but he has now returned and answered my email regarding what model they use the folding parts out of to modify the Prius mirrors into auto folding mirrors. It's the Toyota Wish!
