I give up on it. I'm planing to install 7" rear mirror with 09 Camry camera for now. I may replace HU unit coming years. Personally I hate gps on HU.... can't type address during driving. Outdated map. $$$ update from Toyota.

I'm planning on installing a rear view camera monitor with GPS. I'll it's on order and will post pics once I get it installed. But once someone figures out the backup hookup on the oem head unit, I preferred on there instead of the rear view mirror location.

I just finished installing a back camera for my 2012 base 6.1" display audio head unit.

All that is required for the instal lis four wires for the camera and one wire for the reverse signal.

The 2012 base UASA head unit instantly displays the back up video upon shifting to reverse (no software change necessary)

My install is probably a bit unique since I installed this 2012 radio in my 2011 liftback.

The four camera wires go into the 16 pin connector (L148)

    Camera B+ to pin 7

    Camera V+ to pin 8

    Camera V- to pin 16

    camera ground to pin 15

The reverse signal (+12V when in reverse) goes into pin #2 of the 28 pin connector L149 (The steering wheel controls and microphone also use this connector)

I picked up 25 ft of shielded 22 guage 4 conductor + ground cable @ home depot (34 cents / foot). This is a nice thin cable for running back to the hatch. since it had an extra conductor, I just grabed the 12 volt reverse signal at the reverse bulb (red wire)

I used this $50 OEM toyota camera

    http://www.ebay.com/itm/270894897176?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1439.l2649

(It ouputs beautiful video and its the correct voltage (6 volts). It took a bit of creative mounting to get it into the perfect position. ( I ground off the mounting tabs off the ebay camera and secured the remaining mount to the existing camera blank on my hatch)

I cut off camera plug socket plastic for ease of soldering onto the four terminals and for additional clearence.

My exposed solder connecttions were secured and waterproofed with devcon plastic weld..

The 2012 Prius radio will have the 28 pin connector plug for hooking up the reverse signal but I doubt it has the 16 pin connector plug or the camera connections.

I believe this is the correct connector and pins (I had a complete set of connectors from a salvage yard but I found this info on a camry forum) available @ www.mouser.com

The 16 pin connector is 1318386-1 (natural color) change the 1 to a 2 for black, the pin is 1123343-1

Thanks for head up. Waiting for camera come in! The only thing it is missing that the distance guide line. The worst is found the chuck of rubber as gasket between camera and body and cut it to the right angle! How's angle degree you offset?

It depends what's model of camera!! Most "cheap" aftermarket camera requires 12V. The tacoma camera uses 6.5V which is same as Prius HU voltage!

The factory 2011 /2012 camera part # is 86790-47040. This camera is $700 at the dealer and the best price i found it for used was $250 (Ebay). I was hesitant to spend that kind of money not knowing if the radio was set up to accomadate a camera.
For the extra hour of labor in mounting Im very happy with the $50 OEM toyota camera.
Ill get some pictures of the camera as well as connector pin out diagrams as so as I can.

As mentioned earlier the big plus for a oem camera is the high quality build and its the correct voltage.

Oh, sorry. I overlooked the low HU voltage. There is always possibility to use an external power from the reverse lamp.
