You've probably seen at least 2 of the 3 Prius commercials on TV by now, but you may not have seen some of Toyota's other marketing efforts for the 2010 Prius. Today PriusChat member (and maven of his own website) john1701a pointed out Prius advertising on Dictionary.com.
You can also find Prius references on various Dictionary.com pages:
    Dictionary.com

    Solar definition
    Have you found any others?

I'm not sure what the message is here. Is Toyota trying to attract buyers with poor spelling skills, or are they after buyers who care enough about what they write to ensure their spelling is correct?

I believe the target audience is those who know how to spell words but aren't quite sure what they mean.

And please do not park your Prius in a sand trap.

The latter. I use dictionary.com not because my spelling is poor but because when I come across a word I don't know, I try to enlighten myself with its definition. Brilliant metaphor by Toyota. Use this website and this car to enlighten yourself. Nice find.

I would use dictionary.com to help my spelling, but I can't spell well enough to type in the URL.

The latter in my case. I was posting something here yesterday and ran into one of those "man, there's a better word than THAT"....
So opened Dictionary.com for the thesaurus. And the Prius banner was there. I wondered (really) if I had a trojan horse on my laptop, monitoring my usage for advertising links.

I've noticed that some sites display ad banners at times relative to the subject matter entered. Smart.

Very nice product placement on the solar page. ;) The Prius is also shown when you look up "Hybrid"

Prius Takes Over Dictionary.com’s Home Page

To advertise its third-generation Prius hybrid, Toyota is playing a bit of word association with potential customers...

This is really neat. If you look up the word "Solar" on the "Prius Sponsored Dictionary.com site", you will get the normal definition. What was neat, was the addition of the "Prius Related Words" section that populated the upper left edge of the page. Any of those links took you to the Prius Configurator on Toyota.com

...So the lonely white 2010 Prius continues its search for the Telletubbies...

Alright, like or dislike this new advertising, I think Toyota should expand the campaign philosophy. Everything from static ads, to the latest commercials looks like the enviroment of a childrens show.

Remember the Toyota Website homepage for the 2009 Prius? It was pictured parked infront of a restaurant, in the city. Other pictures had the Prius being driven, by visible drivers. My problem so far with the 2010 approach? Too unreal. No visible driver, cartoonish enviroment.

Honda is showing the Insight being driven, by people, to the beach. To a concert, to a parking garage. So far, The 2010 Prius has been trapped in Make-Believe land.

Please, help me free the 2010 Prius! It's stuck in an advertising campaign seemingly designed to appeal to Pre-Schoolers.

There's nothing wrong with the TV ads, or these static internet ads. But there doesn't seem much particularly right either. I thought that Toyota wanted to mainstream this Prius? These ads are so unreal and so focused on "Green Cred" that they hardly reach out to a mainstream audience.

Please I hope the White Prius finds The Telletubbies soon. Then maybe we can move on to adult ads. .......AGAIN!
