black rubber hv battery tube thingys smell.

as it says, my hv battery vent tube thingys smell, its not nasty but its annoying. when i had the battery out and apart, i sprayed them with wd 40 and laid them out in the sun and it seemed to stop the smell alot but now its back again. is there anything to soak these in or do i have to buy new ones(where do i get those for that matter), they arent cracked or anything and look great but they seemed sticky on the outside before i sprayed them.

any ideas??
