If it is one of the plugs the dealer is supposed to install pre-delivery, it is to keep weather out. The hole it plugs is used for shipping tiedown.

Ooh! Mine were never installed either and I had forgotten about them. I'll have to take them out of my glove box and install them myself.

Somewhere on here is posted the pre-delivery checklist that the dealer is supposed to do before handing over the car. One of the things is put those plugs in, and it shows where they go. I can't put my finger on it right now. You can probably also find it in the files section of the Yahoo 2G group.

But, bascally, there are two holes in the frame near the rear wheels on the under-carriage that those plugs fill.

They were smaller than I stated in my other post. The little plastic bag had a diagram of the location. They go on the car, on the rear frame rails, about 10 inches in front of the rear tires. There is an oval hoel, they pop in real easy.

The pre-delivery checklist is in the File Library on the Forum page. Look for Varko's post, the TSB pre-delivery service.pdf.

This speaks to the location of the plugs.

Oh what the heck, here's the page from the manual and Varky's post:

I'm about to pop these plugs in myself. Does anyone think I should use some rubber weatherstipping adhesive to prevent moisture from getting in, or do you think I'll be OK with just the plugs as is?

They're designed for installation without sealant. About the only reason I could see for using some type of liquid sealant would be if you were caulking the car up to float it downstream.

Should be good with no sealant. Lazy techs not doing the whole PDI....sheesh.

Just found mine in the glove box. I also found the pre-delivery checklist in my paperwork, and the "install plugs" box was not checked. Give the guy 1 point for honesty; I suspect that the car was on the hoist, and he hadn't read the very fine print earlier telling him to remove the plugs from the glove box (now 6' in the air), so he just said WTH and ignored that step.

I inspected the area around and in the frame where the plugs were supposed to go, and found no evidence of mud, rust, or other unpleasantness. Nevertheless, I sprayed some ACF-50 (an anti-corrosion mist used in aircraft) into the holes, popped in the plugs, and feel good about it.
