Just got a Plug In this week and I'm wondering if I can recharge my battery while parked at work for 8+ hrs. My round trip commute to work is 21 miles and I cant quite make it home in EV mode. However, I recall reading in the OM that the 12v outlets will not work when the car is "off". ....so is there any way that I can use the sun to charge the battery?
    TIA

Not unless you can come up with a solar panel(s) that can deliver a minimum of 11.6 amps of current. because that's how much the batteries in the pip require to charge. oh.....wait...11.6/8= 1.45 amps at 120 volts, ummmm....probably got that all wrong, but you need a whole lot of watts (3kw) to fully charge the batteries

I got the impression brewster0808 wanted to trickle charge the 12 volt battery thinking the 12 volt battery is connected to the EV batteries

i think you're right. i just saw the 'sun to charge the battery', which, of course, you can do if you have enough panels. not thru the 12v tho.:p
