ok interesting concept. does "seem" a bit risky. but what is the worst that could happen?? sunburn?, melting the neighborhood? what if this "mini" star turns out to be not so mini?

It's just like the old saying:

"Build a man a fire and you warm him for a day. Set a man on fire and you warm him for the rest of his life."

Hopefully it will produce more energy than it consumes :) Don't worry about the mini sun being not so mini, we are going to be cooking up mini black holes at the HLC (allegedly). They should cancel each other out :D

Any fear elements to this story are just a tabloid style over-the-top sensationalist excuse for "journalism".

Just think of the solar energy that you could get by surrounding the "mini - sun" with an array of solar panels.
