I spotted a two-door mid-1990s Honda Accord with a set of carpool stickers in the Bay Area recently. I took quick snap of the car here:

What's wrong with this picture? on Flickr - Photo Sharing!

I'm pretty sure that's illegal, and that the first cop worth her salt would pull this car over. Is there a way to report this to the DMV? After all, each one of these means that some legitimate user somewhere was denied a set...

I do believe that the red sticker on the right rear fender is a NGV sticker. Natural Gas Sticker ....its thats so, its OK!!!

    Pat KK6PD

If its not, call DMV report plate

There's no alternate sticker on the vehicle (it's a low-res iPhone photo) - that red thing is a reflector. Anyway, I thought natural-gas powered vehicles qualified for the white HOV stickers, not the yellows.

NGV gets the white stickers since they're considered cleaner than anything that burns gasoline. There were no Accord NGV's that I'm aware of. And that red thing is definitely a reflector.

    Book 'im Dano.

But no, I have no idea who to call. DMV?

Call the DMV with the license plate number and report that you saw it with yellow HOV stickers. If the car isn't listed in their data base as being eligible/issued stickers perhaps they'll send a letter/the cops/do nothing..one can never tell anymore.

Did you look at 'em up close? Some that are on sale, on eably read:

And they're not illegal. If they go in the HOV w/ 2 or more in the car, no harm, no foul.
Now, if they ARE real, then maybe it's a double whammy (no that's not leagal jargon) in that they may be stolen. If that's the case, the owner of the car could go down ... faster than George Michael in a public restroom.

No, they're real, and they all have the same serial number on 'em.

If that owner wanted to illegally attach carpool stickers to that Honda, s/he should have also purchased Honda Accord Hybrid badging for the trunk. That would probably be good enough for most CHP officers...

a self converstion to cng or other will get you hov rights here in california.

i say find something better to do...

stalking people just to take a pic of their car sitting in a parking lot is more likely to get you in trouble.

in order to prove it or have it be understood in these courts.. you would have to take a pic of him in the carpool lane... and then again, you would get in trouble for operating your camera while driving...

Actually, no, just owning the vehicle with the bogus stickers would get you a misdemeanor.

Actually, I would prefer that people follow the laws - it would make things better for all of us in most cases. I think the OP will have to decide if he wants to turn them in or not.

Even the HAH doesn't qualify for the sticker.

They never made a 2 door Accord Hybrid, and certainly not of that generation. No way its a hybrid.

Normally I'm with V8Cobrakid, just leave people alone. However, blatancy like that really irritates me and I personally would have great amusement at getting that particular owner busted for that so I say go for it.

It has nothing to do with people following laws, I'm just out for my jollies.

I report people parked in handicapped spaces too if I happen to walk by someone in security after I've seen someone parked in a space without a permit. I don't go out of my way though.

People with a sense of entitlement really irk me, and doing something like this, parking in handicapped spaces without a permit, etc is an example of this.

Turn them in to the CHP.

No, I googled it the first time. I was curious what the V.C. said.

Yes, I probably post too much, but I actually try to refrain unless I have something useful to add to the conversation. The main purpose of my post was to suggest that the CHP would likely be the agency responsible for enforcement.

Found it the first time, then used the browser history to go back for more info.

I wasn't anticipating that I would need to post more after the initial post, but I wanted to clarify that a) the OP has enough evidence to turn in the car owner if he desires and b) it doesn't matter if it is a Accord Hybrid, it is still not eligible for the HOV sticker.

BTW, I'm not trying to be a PITA, even if it seems that way. I was just curious and want to give correct info.

You're not being a PITA dogfriend. I don't even understand what his point was as to the way you were posting...to me I don't understand why you wouldn't respond to those who respond to you...thats called a discussion.

    Report to CHP and DMV.

About the handicap parking thing, that pisses me off as well. There's a guy that drives an Aston Martin in my area that always parks in front of the Baskin Robbins/Starbucks handicap spot. One time I was there, a rather large fellow actually ripped into him about it. I usually keep my camera on me at all times just in case something good happens so if I see this again, I plan on taking the picture of the front with no placard or special license plate and the rear. It's the only 1 in that location so it could pose a problem.
