Exactly. Because as usual, the powers-that-be have spun EVs to be about nothing more than the environment - same as they said about hybrids.
Yup, EVs have nothing to do with EU's oil dependence (much worse than ours) at all. Exactly.....

No, my point is that Toyota's decision to not release EVs in EU based on the fact that its grid is "not clean enough" is nonsensical.

The entire reason EU needs to embrace EV's is so they can reduce their dependence on foreign sources of oil used for transportation, many of them from hostile places (OPEC, Russia, etc.)

It sounds to me like Toyota is trying to mask their lack of viable EV offerings.

IMO, the shuttering of Japan's nuclear powered electrical generation after the earthquake/tsunami is rippling through Toyota.

What about the Rav4 EV? That's at least one, which is about the # of models offered by your typical big carmaker.
It got "Rav" reviews..........140+ miles range, longest range of any 'affordable' EV.

But only offered in one state, and the iQ EV was cancelled.

No masking of EV offerings. Toyota has the lions' share of the hybrid global market. The Rav Ev gets great reviews:)
We are discussing Europe. not Japan in this thread.

What.. was there a mind-transference between Toyota and the old GM. If Toyota was really worried about emissions they would not produce trucks or ICE cars and only sell prius and be moving faster on PHEVs/EVs.

This is a very thinly veiled misdirection. The "green" that totyoa is worried about is money. Lots of big tucks, are green money makers, so don't worry about their emissions. EVs not so much and we are so far behind in that space, lets try to save face by saying we are not doing it because its not "green enough". Its like GM was with hyrbids at the turn of the century.

And lumping all of EU in one basket is lame. Even if a few countries have higher CO2, others are very very low. Just not the big consumers.

What is happening. Its like we've entered Mirror Mirror Universe universe with GM-Toyota flip instead of evil mr spock?

Toyota is reminding the EU what everybody should already know: absent a clean grid, EVs are not an answer to pollution and carbon.

Toyota may remind EV facts, but seemed "threatening" on slow EV introduction.
A manufacturer should care about delivering good products to interested and informed customers as a bottom line.

If Toyota is worried about money, GM is paranoid about money.

    This is utterly bizarre.
Many countries in Europe have a much cleaner grid than the US.
I would expect this from GM, not Toyota.

Europe's dependence on oil is a matter of geological facts. US dependence on oil is a matter of bad public policy.

Europe's energy efficiency, 50% better than US on GDP and per capita basis.

The customer is this case is in part the government, because heavy subsidy is required from the governments. If the governments are not pursuing a clean grid, the environmental agenda (and the business proposition for EVs) is at best suspect.
