Clearwater Blue Metallic 8W1 Paint

I checked with some collision / body shop centers and they were ridiculously expensive to get some paint work done for Clearwater Blue Metallic.

Initially checked for JDM Side Mirrors and the paint job cost more then the side mirror covers...

Has anyone found a place that doesn't cost an arm and leg for this paint color?

I thought the guys selling the signal side view mirrors will all paint them if you give them the correct paint code (and of course pay for the painting). But I thought the added cost for paint was all the same?

I sent them the inquiry , the initial check was the ebay seller(mitaccessories1) that does not have 8W1 available and to check local dealers to see if they could do the work.

Haven't heard anything , guessing its just going to be custom and/or expensive for Clearwater blue metallic owners

Napa and oreillys and Kragens all carry Dupli-Color, right now, there is NO 2012 paint available. I used this on my 2005 Prius and it worked fine. Cost $ 8.00 for one spray can.

along with prep solvent , adhesion promoter and clear coat for the pro job, working on it

No word from Nigel and I just received my pro paint kit, 8W1 , prep solvent, base, and clear coat... Now just need a warm clean place to get started!

Looks pretty good , 8w1 from a spray can, ran out of time so will wipe down first base and run a second base layer and clear coat. Seems easier then those collision centers made it sound...

What procedure do you use for blending and how long do you wait for the coat (s) to dry before blending

Pics? How are you liking the results? I got the mirrors for my sea glass pearl and to avoid the whole paint matching problem I just asked for the mirrors to be painted 202 black to match the trim around the windows. Figured I would wait until someone else found a reliable and economical means of painting them to match body color to do mirror covers and stalks together.

So if you haven't gathered it by now i am no paint pro, did some researched and ran with it

I bought the paint online, and it's mixed in a spray can already, the adhesion promoter is optional and prep solvent, the color was very accurate and at 20 dollars had enough paint in that can to paint 3 sets of mirrors! So I just kept doing light layers and ended up doing two phases of base pant, over killed it...

You want 50% or less relative humidity and 70-100 degrees F so in those conditions I set a timer for about 3 minutes with visual inspections to ensure it was not wet and indeed dry before doing another light pass just barely coating on each pass, side to side, I had a lot of time from webinars and podcast going so it helped kill the time I already was going to spend on them, insured I didn't get too impatient with each light coat.

The clear coat seems to be the hardest and takes a lot of patience there as well, I ended up not liking the clear coat because I was in ideal temperature and humidity but in a dusty environment, I was over it at that point and just wanted to get it done... Patients... So be in a air filtered enclosed area with the right temp and humidity.

Hopefully you can see the blemishes but I think it came out good enough especially since my car is always dirty lol, it's no means a perfect job,

The paint was 20 bucks and the rest of prep solvent and adhesion promoter all came to 50 after shipping or tax added.

Yeah I got tired of waiting, it seemed like a huge disconnect with getting the color, def wanted signal mirrors, safer!!

I almost did the black but kept looking at it and thinking about it, if I did black rims it would be cool too, along with dark tint, but rather have the oem color match in the end , I am not looking at after market rims so stockish look preferred

looks really good! Any chance of pics showing mirror on the car and how well the color matches up? What website did you get this from? So the correct procedure is primer, basecoat, clearcoat? or is this a all-in-one?

Yeah Adhesion Promoter is my primer, Base and clear coat, Clear coat being the hardest, well I would say the hardest is finding the ideal paint environment with filtered air, I am not blessed with a house yet so I made do outdoors...

The website has a vehicle selection drop down on the left, but I chose 2012 > Toyota > All models to find the 8W1 color code which is the same one on 2012 Plug in Prius.

thanks for looking it up! 781 is close but not quite close enough for me. This is 781(left) and 782(right) comparison against sea glass pearl car door.
