Toyota owners should stop driving cars affected by recall, take them to dealers, says U.S. transportation secretary.

This is the e-mail I just received.

Nothing to do with the Prius or Gen III forum though.

I don't "recall" the U.S. transportation secretary telling customers to stop driving any other manufacturers' cars (especially American cars, which have had numerous recalls). What gives?

Yes, sorry about the placement of this post.:(
You are right about that. I don't remember them telling people to stop driving Ford Explorers a while back.

Just a bureaucrat covering his backside. What does he gain by saying it is ok to keep driving these 7.7 million cars that may have resulted in one or more deaths or injuries?

Quite an overreaction, but sadly predictable.

A "Stop Use" order does make sense. Remember, the U.S. is now a major stockholder of GM. ;)

    BINGO!

Me bets he's now on the hot seat and doing all he can - after the fact - to make it look like he's out in front, and being pro-active.

    Balloney.

On the Seattle Times website this morning there is this article, which was originally part of the LaHood thing, but now its a separate link. It seems like the brake issue is gaining traction here in Seattle at least. I haven't posted enough to post the link, but its under Seattle Times Business/Tech section. This is the headline...

"Toyota hit by over 100 Prius brake complaints"

And this thread just got moved to 'other cars' too.

He is quite literally on the hot seat. The comment was made to a congressional committee.

    :)
I believe you own two of the best cars on the road. You have hauling capacity, reasonable milage for the job, and a proven track record of durability and reliability...and as for the Prius ..you have the best of all worlds ...period.
    No jinx...just wise choices !
Sure there is a mob attack on Toyota right now but if you read the posts here from real experts you'll see that you made great choices. :cheer2:
Shucks, I'll take mine out in a little while just to grin and gloat.
    :):p:D:rolleyes:;)
