Here is the comparison of 2012 Volt that would only be sold in California (for HOV lane access) versus the standard model that would be sold outside California.

I feel like you are hiding how bad the 49 state Volt really is by never comparing it to the Prius and the Karma. But maybe you were avoiding kicking them while they were down.

The last two charts show the two Volt emission difference. Yea, it'll be nice to see all in one. Any other cars you want me to throw in? Perhaps, no-plug hybrids?

How about the CA SULEV Prius versus the ULEV Prius sold in other parts of the U.S.?

Interesting charts. Thanks for making them!

Can you post links to the underlying emission tests results?

One thing to keep in mind about the evaporative emissions is that the present diurnal tests include a "hot soak" meaning that the gas engine is run until hot and then a good chunk of the resulting emissions are due to the engine heat and emissions which escape from the exhaust system after the engine stops running.

Now that we have PHEVs like the PiP and Volt they really need a separate set of diurnal tests which do not include a hot soak in order to measure diurnal evaporative emissions on days when the car is run entirely on battery.

There is no such ULEV Prius. I guess that means Toyota sell the same CA SULEV Prius in all 50 states. That is true for Prius c, v, plugin and Lexus hybrids. I have never seen ULEV cert for Toyota/Lexus hybrids.

PDFs are attached in the first post. You want the URLs, is it?

They are epa bin 3 in other states. We don't have warranty as part of our emissions levels test like CARB.:)

I've done the VO2Max test on the bike, but... they don't hook anything up to ummm.... the human tailpipe - just the mouth and nose. Can you find a fat woman to try it on?

Okay, I see them now. I guess I overlooked them earlier. Thanks!

So why does fueleconomy.gov list the Prius as having an emissions level of score 9 in California (PZEV) and 7 (bin 3) in Minnesota if the Prius has the same emissions in all 50 states?

PZEV is a California standard, it does not apply to non-CARB states. It is less clear why Toyota did not go for a Bin 2 classification, perhaps they had no Bin 8 vehicles to offset?
