Last week, we purchased a pre-owned 2006 Prius from a Toyota dealership. Last night, a dashboard icon started flashing red. It is the car with a key in the middle of the car. Please can someone explain to us what this icon means and how do we fix it.
The car did not have an owner’s manual. At the time of purchase, the dealership did order a manual and it should be arriving next week.
Any help is appreciated and thank you for taking the time to read the topic.

It is probably the 'security system on' icon that flashes when the car is off. It is supposed to flash.

That's my thought. Security light flashing.

Toyota calls it the immobilizer system or something to that effect. It's just a warning to those interested in stealing your new baby. The immobilizer prevents the car from starting without the key fob.

Welcome to the site. As the others have said. (The car IS off, right?) Situation normal. No need to panic. Until you have had a chance to read the manual do be careful not to arm the passenger ejector seat. :D

Immobiliser system active indicator light -- yes; Situation normal -- yes; Disconcerting upon first notice -- yes.

Funnily enough the first time I noticed that indicator was also at night when I was walking away from the car after putting it to bed for the first time.

So, it is supposed to flash all the time when the car is not in use and locked up?
