and greet, dinner will be served. They say the service people will be there to answer your questions on maintaining your new Toyota.

I got an invitation to this little get together over the week end.
I figure it will fun to drill the service people to how much they really know about our cars. It is in late September when it is going to happen.

    First two questions I'm asking.
    1. What Oil do "you" use in the 2010 Prius?
    2. Where is the 0w20 kept?

Anyone think of other questions that will help me become extremely annoying to the service manager at this get together. :D

Yes. Ask how much oil goes in that place under the oil cap (with the 0W-20 label on it).

First question should be "what are you going to try to sell me?" :D

Here are a couple of things you might want to ask if there is time:

    1. Would using 5W20 oil all the time would violate the warranty? If so why doesn't it violate the warranty in Canada? They have the same engine that we do and the 2010 Maintenance Manual (Doc Id:RM000002UQM01NX Oil and Filter Replacement page 3 of 3) says for Canada it is OK to use 5W20 oil all the time.

    2. What is meant by the statement on page 560 of the owner's manual that says "An oil with a higher viscosity may be better suited if the vehicle is operated at high speeds, or under extreme load conditions." What higher viscosity? how high of a speed? and what is an extreme load condition?

That's what I would ask anyway. I kind of wish we could have something like that here, sounds like fun. Have a nice dinner. :)

They are selling their service dept for routine maintenance. Expect pizza, subs & soda.

Ask about the impossible stuff in their recommended services.

Yes they want you to use their service department, but the one I went to in March of 2007 included (after sloppy joes, sandwiches, finger foods of various sorts and a big sheet cake with "Congratulations on your new car" written on it) a tour of the service department's back room, a Prius up on a lift with a mechanic to show you what's where under there, another Prius with the big battery exposed, answers to lots of Prius questions from the guys who work on them, (people with other Toyota models got similar mini-tours) and a demo of a airbag going off so we could all see (and hear) what that was like (not in a car, of course). At the end of the evening, everyone's car had been washed & a goody bag awaited in the car. I thought it was very worthwhile attending. Don't know if they still do this - Andrew Toyota on Silver Spring in Glendale, Wisconsin.

That sounds as if it would be worth going to Judy. I'd like a chance to see the car up on a lift so I can see all the bits and pieces without crawling under it.

My dealer did this and it was an OK event. The owner of the dealership spoke and told some stories about high mileage Toyotas and the service adviser spoke. The grilled hot dogs and hamburgers and raffled off some door prizes. I ended up with a Toyota coffee mug. Discount coupons for oil changes were handed out and they washed our cars. Some people asked questions that the sales guys had a hard time answering that I knew the answers to from hanging out here but I didn't say anything!
