While I joined the waitlist at a nearby dealership a few weeks ago, I first looked at getting on the waitlist and my local delership.

I went in, spoke with the sale rep, talked trade-in value. Went home, picked color choices and options, called the sale rep, he said he would place me on the wait list the following day and I could come in and give him the deposit when he was in next, which was a that Friday. Went in and he quitely took me over the a desk area, told me that he couldnt add me to the wait list, that they capped it at 10 people. He then said he would call me in amonth about 2009 priceing.

From what I read online here and the many dealerships in the area I called they are still taking waitlist even though the wait is long. I found it odd and called the dealership this even and spoke to the sales manager. He said they are still taking waitlist and the wait with this is about 6-12 weeks. When I told him about my experience with the sale rep, he merly said at one point they thought the supply would run out, but would talk with the sales rep.

No appolgy or offer to have me come down and get on their waitlist, which I found odd... just thanked me for the call.

I just wrote and email to the manager and owner/general manager, so will have to wait and see if they respond.

Has anyone experinced this, should I do anything if you they don't respond or just leave it at that?

Dude, I would totally leave it at that. They are being nice, but not acting like they care all that much about your business. You can find other dealers that will be excited about doing business with you for the short and long-run. I think you will be much happier looking around a bit. Good luck, I am glad you are interested in the Prius!

Mike, feel free to drop names. PC isn't beholden to any dealer, and knowing which dealers are good and which not so much helps everyone in the area.

I would definitely shop around more. Are there other dealerships in your area? Let us know what the manager writes back. Good luck in your Prius search.

Is this the only dealer in a 300 mile radius? If not....find another dealer.

There are other dealerships in the area, as such I'm on two of their waiting lists. It just makes me think why they wouldn't want another garenteed MSRP sale when all the sales reps are sitting around chating to each other and a lot full of new SUVs are on the other side of the showroom windows, with no customers in sight.

I've heard there are still plenty of '08's in California.

There is plenty, but the wait is 3-6 months.

how are you a guaranteed sale? right now they can sell more than they can make..similar situation happened with harley davidson in the 90's. i sold them i know. when people came in for a new harley it was basically up to the owner who got one..hint, hint:bump2:

I totally agree, it's a guaranteed sale regardless. The waiting list is only going to get longer until a new model with better MPG comes out. It's a seller's market right now and the best we can hope to get a Prius for is MSRP. It's a back and forth game and they've got the upper.

    Dang, I hate losing.

My dealership could not promise anything to my aunt when she can get delivery of a Prius. I think the waitlist is getting longer and longer. Now that a barrel of crude oil reached $140/barrell...(I think) it is time for Chevy and Ford to start putting out hybrid vehicles comparable to the Prius.
