    Toyota was still qualifying its support for plug-in hybrids. John Hanson, a Toyota spokesman, said the company saw plug-in hybrids differently from other companies. “I wouldn’t say we have reservations — we’re positive about the program — but there’s a tendency to see each new technology as the next big thing,†he said in an interview. “Plug-in hybrids will require extra costs and will have specific performance parameters that may not fit into everybody’s lifestyle. We think they will be a subset of the core hybrid technology for a long time.â€
